The long hours felt like an eternity, but Viggo had never grown tired of watching over Orlando. His silky hair was cut short and shaved at one side where the bleeding gash was mended. Orlando’s face was marred with bruises and even then he was a beautiful sight. Viggo reached over the bed railing and touched Orlando’s hair. He had been sick with fear ever since he received the call from Sonia. One of the nurses at the hospital had found Orlando’s wallet and when they had searched further they found Orlando had named his mom to be the closest relative. So Sonia had been the first to hear.

Viggo was the first to see him after the accident. It was a lot to take, to see Orlando in the hospital bed with IV but to the doctors he was on the mend. Running his fingers through the silken hair Viggo sighed. He had to wipe his own eyes. Orlando stirred awake again and even though it hurt, he grabbed Viggo’s hand and held it.

“How are you feeling?” Viggo asked trying to swallow the lump that felt stuck in this throat.

“Hurts,” Orlando croaked. With his free hand he held his throat and grimaced as he swallowed.

“Want some water?”

“Yeah.”

Viggo took a plastic mug and gently placed it on Orlando’s lips.

“Thanks,” Orlando said when he had had enough.

“Seems like Mr. Bloom is recovering fast,” a nurse commented behind Viggo’s back.

Viggo turned around slightly startled.

The nurse, Maggie it seemed, was smiling broadly at them. “I came to take Mr. Bloom to a post-op CT scan. There had been something confusing the doctors so they want to be sure of it now that Mr. Bloom is awake,” Maggie explained. “It won’t take long. An hour, tops.”

Viggo nodded and stood up. “I’ll wait here.”

Orlando gave him a brief squeeze and offered a tired smile. Then he was wheeled out.

Once again Viggo was left in silence. His mind was filled with thoughts of Orlando and their upcoming second anniversary. He hoped they’d be able to celebrate it at home but silently he prepared for them to spend it in the hospital. He had planned on taking Orlando to a special place. That’s where they had confessed each other their feelings ran deeper than mere friendship. It had been on top of a hill in Santa Cruz, both of them facing the ocean.

That sunset he had shared with Orlando still brought a smile on his face. He felt butterflies invading his stomach now that he thought about what he was going to do. It was something he was sure of. He’d do it no matter what. Sighing, he rubbed his eyes. The nights spent awake were slowly taking their toll on him. Yawning, he rubbed his eyes again. He decided he’d stay awake until Orlando was wheeled back and then he’d go home and get some sleep.

As Orlando was returned back into his room, he was miraculously awake. Maybe more so than just before the scan. “I hate those buggers...” Orlando said as Maggie put the bed brakes on. Viggo chuckled as he knew Orlando’s dislike of machines. Orlando was reaching towards Viggo and Maggie lowered the railing on one side of the bed before leaving the room.

Viggo sat down on Orlando’s bed carefully avoiding any contact with Orlando’s bruised body. Emotions took over once again when he was allowed to place a kiss on Orlando’s waiting lips.

“Go home, Vig. I’ll be fine.”

“Yeah. I haven’t slept well, if at all, these days. I’ve been worried sick.” Orlando smiled again. “I’ll just hear out what the docs have to say about your scan and then go. Alright?”

“Yeah. And... I’m so happy to see you.”

“So am I, angel. So am I.”

Two hours later Orlando’s doctor walked in a slight smile on his face. Viggo squeezed Orlando’s hand and Orlando squeezed back. “I only bear good news,” the Doctor started. “The scan before this showed something odd but this scan taken today showed nothing of that sort. Mr. Bloom had a concussion, that’s all. There is absolutely no damage to be seen. If you continue to recover with the same speed as now, you can be discharged in about a week. That is all for now. If there’s anything you’d like to know, feel free to contact me.” The doctor left then, after shaking both Viggo and Orlando’s hands.

“Okay. I’ll be going now. I’ll call your Mom and give her the news. I’ll come back when I have gotten a decent amount of sleep.”

Nodding Orlando nuzzled the back of Viggo’s hand briefly and let go. Lifting the railing back up Viggo gave Orlando a small kiss and then, with promises of returning, he left. He had a phone call to make. In fact he had something to ask of both Sonia and Colin.
