[identity profile] lilafilly2.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vigorli
I was on the __vam community page about a month ago and clicked on a fic by jimisgirl4eva. I began reading it and I thought it sounded really familiar, so I came here to search for a fic called "When Worlds Collide" because I just thought it might be it. I went back and forth between chapters until I realized I was reading the same story. I was sure, especially when the author slips and uses "Viggo" at one point during the first chapter. I got pissed and commented several times, although I've checked and I don't think my comments made it, I think they were screened. Would someone here be so kind as to help me find out if this girl on __vam is the same original author *bahama_breeze77 under a different name, please let me know. Or else I would at least like to know it it is being plagiarized.

Here are links to her chapters:

Chapter 8- http://community.livejournal.com/__vam/3274136.html#cutid1

7- http://jimisgirl4eva.livejournal.com/1630.html#cutid1 You might have to highlight to read all of the ones below.

6- http://jimisgirl4eva.livejournal.com/1479.html#cutid1

5 & 4- http://jimisgirl4eva.livejournal.com/1228.html#cutid1

3 & 2 & 1- http://jimisgirl4eva.livejournal.com/ This is her journal, and you have to highlight for a good long while since it isn't under a cut.

I am very sorry for disturbing you all and taking up so much space, but I couldn't let this piss me off anymore. If this girl is an alias for the original author, I am very very sorry for coming here. Please know that I would not have come if I didn't think it was urgent, and that the __vam community is most likely completely unaware of this. Please don't hold them for blame.

I tried to reply to your message but for some reason it wouldn't let me...so i'm coping it here! hope it gets to you!

Hey...I want to thank you so much for bringing this to my attention...I would have never known otherwise. It is kinda a blow when you find out someone steals your work. I saw your post a couple days ago and quickly replied and when I got a spare minute I checked it again and saw that lots of people had replied to it. I'll thank them all, but I wanted to say thanks to you first! So anyway reading through all the comments, it's kinda overwhelming...I joined the Stop Plagerism site and all, but I wasn't sure if someone already wrote to them about it or not...do you know?? I just didn't know if I should send them a complaint or not if I'm just repeating what someone else has said. Sorry for rambling...but thanks again!

Wow how rude is that.I had someone copy a picture of something I did once. But I must say I would love to see another chapter of this story written.....by the real author!

Thanks so much for the support, I DO plan on continuing, I'm just having a bad case of writers block...it's like the end is done and planned out...I'm just having trouble connecting it all...but I'm working on it!

Hey there!

It only took a moment to find that "When Worlds Collide" had truly been copied, in many sentences word for word. Even the supporting characters Karl and Dave are the same.

I contacted [livejournal.com profile] lady_razzle to see what could be done about this. She made some quick screencaps of the pages in [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva's journal as well as some from yours, [livejournal.com profile] bahama_breeze77. These would show the dates the stories were posted as well as all the similarities. It also keeps [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva from locking you out of her lj or deleting and coming back under some other assumed new lj name.

If you need them, I'll be more than happy to forward them to you in an e-mail.

[livejournal.com profile] lady_razzle said other things that could be done include:

1) making the community where the copied story was found aware by posting that the original work belongs to [livejournal.com profile] bahama_breeze77 and NOT to [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva,

2) contacting the moderators of the community,

3) asking that the moderators remove the story from their community, and

4) contacting the plagiarist herself.

I'll echo [livejournal.com profile] loann2000 about the report to the lj abuse program, as well as [livejournal.com profile] benji4you's idea about posting it on [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism.

No one has the right to steal the work of another person like this. I'm so sorry this has happened to you, [livejournal.com profile] bahama_breeze77. If I can help any further, or if you'd like me to email you the screencap copies of the two stories, please give a yell. Don't let the person get away with this. But most of all, don't let this keep you from continuing to do something you really love, which is writing stories.

***HUGS***

Kudos to you, [livejournal.com profile] lilafilly2! Great catch! Far too many people get away with copying other people's hard work. Someone once told me that having your work plagiarized feels like having your baby kidnapped.

Thank you so much for pointing this out, both at __vam and here in the Viggorli community. I wouldn't worry about people blaming an entire community for the error of one person who has posting access. Many of the fanfiction communties out there have seen this sort of thing happen. The most important thing is to let people know the story by [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva is a copy, and perhaps tell them they might rather enjoy the original (maybe bahama would agree to let you post a link?)

I'm proud of you for going to the trouble to try and make this wrong a right. *HUGS*

I don't know if you got a copy of my comment to [livejournal.com profile] bahama_breeze77 today, but I've been watching for the moderators at [livejournal.com profile] __vam to do something about [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva, and I haven't seen anything. Have you heard from [livejournal.com profile] strangelyshaded?

The post that you made pointing out the plagiarism was a very good way to notify the other community members. Thanks for doing that! I'm guessing you also contacted the moderators. It might be time to contact them again and see if they plan on removing the copied story and possibly banning [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva from posting in their community.

I'd love to hear from you about anything else that might have happened about this problem. It's stealing, and that shouldn't be tolerated. Ignoring the problem does not make it go away, and you were so right to point it out to everyone. Thanks again for doing that.

*hugs*

Actually, I haven't seen anything done about the plagairism at all. [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva still has your story posted on her lj, and as far as I can tell, the moderators at [livejournal.com profile] __vam have not removed the story from their archive. All I saw was [livejournal.com profile] lilafilly2's post to the community members telling them there was a problem, and a post from the moderator [livejournal.com profile] strangelyshaded that referred to "the drama" going on in her community.

The moderator's email is listed as dakillercockroach @ hotmail.com.

I can't tell, but there doesn't seem to be a record of a complaint having been made at [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism either. They can help you put pressure on the moderators to ban your plagiarist from posting more copies of your story.

I would like to help you resolve this, but I don't want to interfere if you don't want to have this person stop representing themself as you and copying your writing. I have screencaps of the two stories, and I know people who have worked on this kind of problem before. I need to hear something from you, [livejournal.com profile] bahama_breeze77, about whether you want to have this person stopped or not.

For the sake of all writers of original work everywhere, I hope you will agree to do something to prevent [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva from getting away with stealing like this. You can reply here, or feel free to email me at alliwantisanelfforchristmas @ hotmail.com anytime.

Thanks *hugs*

hey, sorry i couldn't get back to you sooner, my homework load has been a bitch! but yeah, I think something should be done. I do want her stopped, I'm just not exactly sure what to do.....probably send a complaint to the stop plagerism website, right? I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing that though...I could sure use your help! Just let me know what needs to be done if you have some spare time...thanks so much!

I need you to give me permission for three things:

1) I need your permission to contact [livejournal.com profile] slightlyshaded, who is the moderator for [livejournal.com profile] __vam and ask her to remove the story by [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva, because the original story was copied from you. I will ask her to ban [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva from posting in the [livejournal.com profile] __vam community again. I'll also ask her to post to her community that this action has been taken and that, as it says in their rules section for the community, plagiarism of other people's work will NOT be tolerated.

2) If the actions in #1 don't get results in about a week, I need your permission to contact the [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism moderator for you to let her know of the situation, and to tell her about what I've done in #1 above. I'll request that she look into this, and help us resolve the problem with [livejournal.com profile] __vam's moderator.

3) I'll need your permission to share any correspondence between us so that I can show you've approved of me working with you on this problem. This would include sending the screen captures I have that were made by [livejournal.com profile] lady_razzle of "When World's Collide" from your lj, so that [livejournal.com profile] slightlyshaded and the moderator at [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism can see and easily compare them to the screen captures from [livejournal.com profile] jimisgirl4eva's lj. It'll save a lot of work, and if either of them is like you are with the homework situation, I'm sure it will make this a lot faster for everyone.

Do you have an email address where you can be contacted privately that I can share with these people? Or if you'd prefer to keep your own email private, you can send the address to me at alliwantisanelfforchristmas @ hotmail.com (take out the spaces in there) and I'll have them email whatever they need to me and I can forward back and forth just to you.

I'd be more than happy to help you. My own stories come out painfully one word at a time with much effort expended, and it irks me greatly to see people get away with this version of stealing. Thank you for being willing to follow up on this!

I just took a look and I'd have to say its a definate rip off, if not word for word, the damn close to it.

This needs to be reported to the community's mods.
