Previous part:A day on the beach

Tonight was a party night. Elijah was celebrating his birthday. He had invited everyone to his rented beach house to have fun. Music was loud and booze was free. Life was good. At least it seemed that way. The illusion was broken if one looked at the lonely figure sitting on the couch nursing the soda he had been sipping for nearly two hours. It didn’t take long for him to get out and walk to the sandy shore.

The moon was full lighting the sea in silver. Even the Milky Way was visible. Orlando sat down on an old log partially buried in sand and looked at the sea and how the silver light played in it. He sighed. He had never felt so lonely. The elation he felt when he was invited to Elijah’s birthday party was short lived. Way before the midnight Orlando had realized it had been a formality. No one paid attention, not even the slightest bit. He was like air or something one could easily push aside.

Of course he had known that already. This wasn’t the first time. He had hoped he’d now be recognized, but no.

Viggo had seen Orlando slip out through the back door. He used the opportunity the open door gave him and slipped out. At first he didn’t see anyone out there. Then he spotted a huddled figure sitting on a sea smoothed log near the water’s edge.

Orlando’s silhouette was nearly black against the twinkling silvery ocean. With careful steps Viggo walked to him. “May I join you?” he asked quietly. “Sure.” “Why are you here, all alone?” “The party was a little too loud for my taste. Besides I wanted to test something.” “Like what?” “If anyone would notice that I had left. This only confirmed what I already knew.” “I’m here.” “Yes, but you’ve always been...attentive. I wished Lij, the one who actually invited me, would have paid at least some attention. This makes me feel left out, like I don’t belong here, with these people. That I don’t fit in.” “Oh, nonsense.” “You are an amazing person, trust me. You are passionate about what you are doing. You concentrate well before every scene. And, to me, it takes real courage to jump to the unknown like you did. You took this part without knowing anything about your co-stars or how much work you have to put in every single little thing you do.” “I don’t want to be lonely. I came here to work, yes, but I hoped I’d get something more out of this than just experience. I wanted to have friends here.” “You have friends. They just don’t know what a great person you are yet, Orli. How great you truly are.” Viggo’s voice was low. “I bet you’d say that to anyone in my place.” Sarcasm was evident in Orlano’s. “Only to someone special.” With that Viggo placed his warm hand on Orlando’s cheek wanting nothing more than to just brush away the sad expression marring the beautiful face. Orlando clung to the hand placing his own on top of it.

It took a lot for him to lift his gaze and meet the intense pair of blue eyes Viggo had. He wanted to just say ‘yeah’, ‘thanks for your kind words’ and then walk away but he couldn’t tear his eyes off of the older man. The blue eyes were so sincere Orlando felt weak.

Viggo loved the play of the shadows and silver on Orlando’s face. It intrigued him how the shadow curled around Orlando’s lips, how it brushed his eyes ever so gently only to disappear behind his neck. And the silver color seemed to absorb into Orlando’s skin making it glow in the dark. But most of all he was mesmerised by the dance shadows and color made on his lips, the simplicity of color and shadow blending in together.

Trepidation took him over as he tenderly touched the silky soft lips with his thumb. He watched the sweet mouth open a little. “There is nothing I could wish more now than be allowed to kiss you, Orli.” Viggo said in a husky and low voice. “What’s stopping you?” Orlando whispered not trusting his voice. Viggo looked at Orlando for a few seconds before coming closer. “I feel like I’m taking advantage of your vulnerable state.” “Shut up.” Orlando whispered before closing the distance left between them. It took a while for Viggo to realize what exactly had happened but when he did, he was in heaven. Kissing an angel.
