The sun shone brightly down at the men sitting on a checkered blanket. The ice cream on a bowl was melting rapidly in the heat. Orlando picked it up and took the first spoonful. It felt cool in his mouth and down his throat. Absentmindedly he licked the underside on the spoon only to be stopped by Viggo. He had grabbed Orlando’s wrist a predatory expression in his eyes. “It’s illegal to look that sinful.” he stated. Orlando laughed. “Sorry. Can’t help it.” he grinned back. With that he took another spoonful and once again licked the underside of the spoon. Viggo shook his head. Tease.
It was pure bliss to sit in the sunlight on a field far away from everything. Viggo looked at Julian, now five years old, running after Sidi, squealing. It made him chuckle. Julian, or Jude or Bundle, had brought such joy in his life. So had Orlando.
The bowl soon lay empty near their shingle basket. After finishing the ice cream Julian hadn’t eaten Orlando decided to lie down, sunbathe a little. He was feeling so content. Viggo lay down as well leaning against his elbow, moving the basket aside. He ran his hand on Orlando’s frame starting from one bent knee, sliding it over a barely showing baby belly and changing his touch when he reached Orlando’s face. He started singing Rod Steward’s classic “Have I told you lately” all the time running his fingers through Orlando’s hair or touching his face with his fingertips.
Orlando was looking back at Viggo through his serenade a warm and happy smile on his face. For the last five years he had felt like it was plastered on his face. For good. He didn’t mind one bit. Orlando reached out a hand only to pull Viggo down. He gave him a small kiss. “I love you, too.”
Their private moment was shattered soon by Julian and Sidi running to them. Viggo chuckled at them; pulled Julian in his arms and tickled him. “Daddy! It tickles!” Julian squealed. “That’s the whole point, big guy.” Julian reached for Viggo’s side and tickled back. It didn’t tickle of course, but he laughed and wriggled on the blanked acting like it did. The most important thing was that Julian was happy.
Sidi came back with a ball, dropped it in front of Julian, and caught his attention again. Little Julian threw the ball running after it trying to get it before Sidi. Viggo looked at them shaking his head and laughing. He turned his attention back at Orlando. “Where were we?”
“Here.” was the answer before he was pulled into a searing kiss. Chuckling he broke it. “Yeah, NOW I remember.” He sat up only to change his position. Now he was facing Orlando’s stomach. He took the hem of Orlando’s shirt between his thumb and forefinger and lifted it aside. “Your brother has gone crazy. Forbid your dad from feeding him ice cream.” Viggo spoke quietly, making Orlando smile. Then he placed a kiss on the soft skin.

The sun started its descend behind a nearby hill. Orlando packed the basket covering the food with their folded blanket calling both Julian and Sidi back. Julian wanted to play Catch me back to the car and Viggo made a mad dash after him. Viggo caught him easily lifting him up in the air, pretending he was an airplane. Then he sat him on his shoulders and carried him to the car where Orlando was waiting, leaning against their car. It was time to go home.
