vigorli | FIC: Before Time

Just a short one today. I was looking at my fics and I only have five (finished) fics left, and a 7-8 part one that I need to have beta'd before I post. This move and the new job are taking up too much of my time and creativity! *pouts* I used to be able to write at work but now...the boss sits behind me! Anyone have a plot bunny or a word prompt they want me to write about? Get the brain working again? *puppy dog eyes*

“Sometimes I hate knowing that you lived an entire life before me.”

The strange combination of anger, sadness, and affection in Orlando’s voice made Viggo pause in writing the poem that Orli himself was the inspiration for. He glanced over to where his lover was sitting on the floor in front of the couch, surrounded by photo albums and an empty beer bottle near his thigh. There was an open album on his lap, and the Brit was frowning down at it even as his finger gently traced over a picture protected by a sheet of thin plastic.

“It’s maddening, really,” Orlando continued. “All of that time I’ll never get to spend with you.”

“What are you looking at?”

“Your high school graduation.”

Viggo did some mental calculations. “You hadn’t been born yet.”

“I know.” Orlando closed the album but had yet to look up. “We weren’t even supposed to meet. You were this surprise addition to Rings. Maybe…in an alternate timeline I am with Stuart Townsend instead of you. Isn’t it funny that Stuart was too young for the role and I’m…” Orli didn’t have to finish the sentence for Viggo to know he was about to say “too young for you.”

Viggo set aside his notebook and crawled over to straddle Orlando’s lap. He placed the heavy photobook on the couch, inched forward a bit more, and framed his lover’s face, forcing him to meet his eyes. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know why I never really thought about it before, but Henry said to me yesterday that it was cool that I’m only eleven years older than him. That it would be weird to call me his step-dad.”

“Step-dad?” Viggo combed his fingers through Orlando’s curly hair and smiled a little when the younger man laid his head back with a sigh, eyes drifting closed.

“Exene’s husband asked if Henry would refer to him as his step-father.”

The rhythm of Viggo’s hands stuttered for a second before resuming. “Did he.”

Brown eyes studied him. “Does that bother you?”

“A little.” It wasn’t a completely unexpected request for Jason to make except for the fact that Henry was at the age where parents were loved but barely tolerated, with flashes of adoration thrown in to keep it interesting. “Will he?”

Orli smiled. “No. Henry said he already has a father, but he could use another good friend.”

“Ah, are you the other ‘good friend’?”

“Yes.” Orlando plucked at the hem of Viggo’s t-shirt. “I wish I could catch up to you.”

“Don’t,” Viggo said softly. He hunched down and kissed Orlando, only moving back when he felt the Brit’s hands slip under his shirt and slide against the skin at his sides. “Just enjoy now.”

“I am.” Oli scratched his nails up Viggo’s back and grinned when the older man shivered. “I definitely am.”

“As my son, Henry keeps me grounded in my role as his father, as the adult.” Viggo tapped Orli on the nose and snickered when the younger man made a face. “As my lover, you keep me excited, hungry for more. It makes me forget the passed years so I can just concentrate on the next minutes.”

“Will you tell me more about your life before we met?”

“Whatever you want to know.”

Orlando hummed as he stretched up to nip at Viggo’s throat. “I want to know everything.”

“That may take a while,” Viggo told him breathlessly.

“We’ve got time,” Orlando replied.
