FIC: 4. First

I'm jumping back in time today - it's a New Zealand fic and a very short one at that! Hey! When you post a comment, would you mind posting what part of the world you're from? It's so funny that I post in the morning here (US - East coast) and read how some people read the fics after work in the evening only an hour later! You don't have to, I'm just curious...and lazy since I can easily just poke around people's journals... ha ha!

Title:  4. First
Author:  Ranmaru
Rating:  PG
Summary: First winter in NZ.
Disclaimer:  Don't know, don't own, just playing. (And unsure if I used the word "bollocks" correctly! ^_^)

Table A Prompt 4

“First”

It was cold enough to see his breath on the air but Viggo wasn’t ready to go in quite yet. He shifted; the frozen grass beneath the blanket he was laying on crackling with the movement. He wished it would snow so he could stand perfectly still and let the flakes fall around him and on him, the warmth of his skin ending their frozen journey but allowing them to live on as droplets of water. He loved the sound of a heavy snowfall, like cushioned raindrops, soft and enveloping. It was a kind of silence because not everyone heard it, not everyone would take the time to open their ears and their senses. Would step outside of their snug homes, outside of the manic city. Maybe it was better that way.

Rhythmic crackling of grass heralded the arrival of his lover and Viggo smiled when Orlando came into view. The Brit was wearing one of Viggo’s lined flannel shirts and a navy blue knit cap to keep warm.

“Enjoying the cold?”

Viggo shrugged. “My first winter in New Zealand. I’m absorbing as much as I can.”

“Can do that perfectly well by looking out the window.”

“No.” Viggo sat up so he was cross-legged. “If you’re cold, go back inside.”

“Nah.” Orlando sat beside him. “Wouldn’t be the first time I froze my bollocks off. Better company though.”

Viggo grinned and reached over to hold one of Orlando’s chilled hands between his own. “Glad to hear that.”

They were quiet, the distant sounds of the city reaching their ears. Viggo’s mind was pleasantly blank and all he concentrated on was gently chafing his lover’s hand until it was warm again. He cupped his hands and exhaled hot breath against Orlando’s skin.

“I have another hand,” Orlando murmured, moving closer and holding out a slightly shaking hand.

Viggo then held both hands between his, blew more hot air, continued rubbing. “You should come with me to Idaho sometime. Experience winter there. The stillness. I have a sleigh. We could…” He laughed suddenly, feeling inexplicably embarrassed.

“I’d like that,” Orli said softly. “I’d really-“ He leaned against Viggo, hiding his face in the older man’s shoulder. He sighed. “Yeah.”

“Yeah.” Viggo put his arm around the Brit and looked up at the stars.

The End

I've never taken the time to hear snow. Now I want it to snow so that I can do just that :)

[And I'm in England and it's lunchtime (1pm)]

That was just lovely...there is something so peaceful about snow when it's falling down. It's like it just erases everything away. I'm from Conneticut, USA (45 min from NYC) on the East Coast :)

Sweet and simple, I like that. And I could hear the sound of that snow fall, something we don't get where I am now.

And leaving the time is a great idea!

Sweet fic....with a warm feeling!

I used to like snow but last winter's blizzards cured me of that. I'll just watch the boys... I mean the snow through the window. ::hides video camera behind curtain::

I hail from just out of Cleveland in Wickliffe, Ohio so howdy neighbor!

Sweet! This makes me look forward to snow.

I read your fics all the time, absolutely love them! But the question about where everyone's from really got my finger on the review button. Totally cute story, short, sweet, but rather evocative. And I'm from northern California (just past midnight), but close to SF, so no snow, ever. Really, anything below like 50 degrees is freezing for me.

p.s. I'm reading over this and see all the likes and absolutelys, and really the California just shines through :) I should just throw some hellas in there and be done with it. Now, enough of my rambling!!

Thank you - I'm not really familiar with snow (it does snow here, but my childhood holidays were spent in Pacific countries that were *not* snowing at that point or on beaches back here (if that makes sense).

Calling in from Auckland, NZ 2015 13 Sep - it's Spring! (and it hasn't snowed here since the 1950's - or so a Primary School told me when I was eight).
