[identity profile] ranmaru.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vigorli
Due to an overwhelming response to let the boys be happy, I've decided to post today so I can post the conclusion to this series on Friday. I was going to end it on Saturday, but I really don't know if I'll have the time before I leave. Many hugs to everyone who has been reading and letting me know how much they like these fics!!!!!

Title:  Untitled Word Prompt - Sight
Author: Ranmaru
Rating: PG
Summary: Orli is drunk and calls Viggo.
Disclaimer: Don't know, don't own, just playing.

Orlando was drunk.

Tipsy, sloshed, pissed; whatever way you wanted to describe it.

Kate had left earlier that day. She’d been radiant, her excitement about an upcoming screen-test overshadowing her sadness at cutting their holiday short and leaving her boyfriend to the tender mercies of Johnny Depp. Orli didn’t blame her. She’d been so frustrated with the lack of good scripts to come her way and he’d felt a little embarrassed that he had to turn scripts down because he didn’t have the time.

The Brit was lying on the floor of his hotel room, staring up at the ceiling mosaic. He supposed it was paying homage to the Sistine Chapel, with the two fingers touching, though that was all that could be seen other than some freaky looking cherubs. Just these two, muscle-bound arms extended towards each other, pointer fingers…pointing.

Orli sighed and slapped his hand around until he found his cell phone. He’d left a message for Kate to call him when she landed but hadn’t heard back. She should have been there hours ago so he checked the messages again just in case he’d missed the ring between gulps of rum and Johnny’s wild tales of his misspent youth. And misspent teenage years. And misspent adult years.

Johnny had a lot of misspent-ness in his life.

Orlando, on the other hand, spent his time well and was proud of that. He grinned at the picture on his tiny cell screen. It was of the walkway in the garden of some manor in Northern England that Kate had dragged him to. He hadn’t much been interested, though the ghost stories the guide had told them (and the rest of the tour group) had been cool. What he’d been most interested in was that he’d been in a place so far removed from any memories of Viggo that it had deserved to be remembered. “Viggo’s feet have never touched these stones,” he’d whispered as he’d snapped the picture.

“Pathetic,” he mumbled, even as he scrolled through his contacts list and stopped on the one name that was listed under the ‘V’s’. “Three years.”

Sometimes it felt like New Zealand was a dream. Sometimes he felt that last night’s pain as if it really had been the night before. He’d spoken to Viggo twice on the phone since they’d parted ways, both times he’d been left with a gaping hole in his heart that he’d almost convinced himself had been closed until he took a moment to look a little closer.

It hadn’t been anyone’s fault. It had been something they’d agreed on. They hadn’t fallen out of love. It had just been the right thing to do at the time. Orli wondered if they’d ever find each other again but he knew in order to do that would mean it would have be over with Kate and he wasn’t sure if he was ready for that, despite the on-again, off-again tone of their relationship lately.

He felt like it was someone else who pressed the key to connect the call. He held the phone to his ear and closed his eyes, the ringing seeming to get louder as he cut off his sight. The click of the other end being picked up was one decibel shy of deafening.

“Hello?”

“I’d make a terrible woman,” Orlando told his friend and former lover.

“I…see. What…?”

“You’d be worse with all that facial hair. And chest hair.” Orlando giggled and covered his closed eyes with his arm. He wasn’t quite sure why he was saying something that he’d sworn to never reveal outside of the private confines of his mind but…it was Viggo. But if one of them had been a woman, maybe they’d still be together. It was stupid to think of it.

“True. Can you excuse me for a moment?”

“Huh? Uh, no?”

“Not you.”

“You’re with someone? Henry?”

“No.”

“No.” Orlando swallowed. “A date?”

Viggo didn’t answer right away. “Yes.”

“Oh.”

“I’m at a restaurant eating food I can pronounce but not see because of the poor lighting. The wine is good though.”

“Hm, I’m having rum. Was, was having rum.”

“Sounds as though you’ve had more than your own share of it.”

“Yeah, maybe. Who is she? An actress?”

“No.”

“Is it a man?”

“It’s, she’s a woman.”

“Young?”

Orlando, where are you?”

Orli laughed sadly. “On the moon. Can’t you see me smiling down at you?”

“You’re too far away.”

“Build a rocket ship.”

“I was never good at science.”

Orlando found that funny and couldn’t figure out why his temples were wet. “A man of nature?”

“Something like that.”

“Where are you?”

“Outside. There’s a terrace overlooking the ocean. It’s too cold for anyone to be out here.”

“You are.”

“If I was inside I couldn’t see the moon.”

Orlando scratched at the carpet with his free hand. “Wave to me.”

“I am. Can you see me?”

Orli snapped the phone closed.

Viggo looked up at the moon, raised his cell and snapped a picture.

The End

I've loved just about every one of the fics you've been sharing with us all, but I think I love this one most of all! Just stunning. I can't wait to read the rest of it tomorrow! I love the angst, too, more than the average person, I think, but I need a happy ending, too! Love you!

I know I'm twisted, but I really love angst. It makes you feel. Makes you KNOW you're alive. Waiting eagerly for the conclusion (for I too love a happy ending to all the pain!)
