A/N: I cheated a bit this week! Looking at the two pictures, they seemed to combine in my mind to make one story, so (hoping I’m not breaking any rules!) here it is! Hope it works . . .

Based on these pictures:

Ten Trees

Viggo came home to find Orlando hard at work in the garden and was so amazed at such an event – his lover only ever set foot in the garden to lie in a hammock – that he’d forgotten everything else, and was sitting on the veranda mesmerised by the vision.

Eventually, as the light began to fade, Orlando rose from his knees and stretched hugely, his bones cracking and cramped muscles easing out. In front of him, their garden stretched away towards the woodland behind, and now there were ten new miniature fir trees, planted neatly against the fence.

“Such hard work, I’m impressed!”, said Viggo, and Orlando jumped at the sound, unaware he’d been watched.

“So you should be”, he grumbled good-naturedly as he walked towards the house, dusting off his hands against his grubby T-shirt. “Working all day in this hot sun! I hope you appreciate it . . .”

“All this for me?”, asked Viggo, pretending surprise.

“You do know what today is, don’t you, Viggo?”, Orlando asked, climbing the steps to join him on the veranda, and looking back at the results of his green-fingered day.

“Well . . . Saturday?”

“No, not the day! The date”.

Viggo looked down to hide a grin. He knew perfectly well what the date was, but teasing hot & bothered Orlando was too good to resist.

“Never mind about the date, tell me about the trees”.

“Well, there are ten . . .” Orlando looked at him hopefully.

“I can count, Orlando”.

“Ten”, emphasised Orlando. “It comes after nine and before eleven”.

Viggo rolled his eyes in silent reply.

“T.E.N.” Orlando flopped into a chair, tears of frustration welling in his eyes. ”All that hard work . . .” he thought to himself. ”And I wanted it to be such a romantic surprise . . .”

Viggo looked at him fondly. He couldn’t tease for long, not faced with that look in Orlando’s eyes.

“I know, love”, he said. And reaching beneath his chair to where he’d hidden it, he picked up a glass of Orlando’s favourite drink. Holding it out in one hand and offering his own neatly packaged gift in the other, he smiled tenderly at Orlando.

“Ten years today. Happy Anniversary”.
