Chapter 25

Orlando arrived at the airport with hours before his flight was to leave. He checked in his bags and made his way to the waiting area. It was quiet in the airport that early in the morning, but that was all right with him. He needed the peace and quite so he could think.
He sat down at one of the many empty chairs and closed his eyes. God he hoped the Peter wouldn’t be pissed at him. He knew he has just blown the chance of a lifetime. This could very well ruin everything for him as an actor. It would be a black mark against him. He shifted nervously in his seat, half expecting Lij to show up. He was so tempted to call, but he already knew what his friend would say. And he really didn’t want to hear it.
He looked at his watch four hours to go what was he going to do by himself with all this time? He lay down on the black vinyl seats and closed his eyes. He was exhausted that was for sure. But every time he closed his eyes…visions of Viggo appeared before him. He tried to think of other things, his home and his friends, but the same sad face kept reappearing over again, the same blue eyes. He shifted on the seats and lay his head onto the carry on he had.
He took a deep breath and knew that sleep would not come easily to him as he waited for the hours to pass.

******************************************

Elijah awoke the next morning. The sun shining in his eyes. He squinted and looked around. It was 5:00 it was a late day and there were no hobbit feet today so he got to sleep in, for that he was extremely happy. He rolled over and stared at the phone nearby. He reached out with his hand and grabbed it quickly. He lay back on the bed trying to focus on the numbers to call Orlando, his eyes squinting. He knew it was still early, but he still wanted to check up on him after not calling him last night. He dialed the number and waited. It rang several times before the answering machine picked up. Elijah sighed and waited for the beep.”Hey Orli, it’s me. Just called to see how you’re doing today. Give me a call when you get up. I have a late call today so I’m still at home but I’m getting up and ready. Hope you had a goodnights sleep and guess I’ll talk to you later.” He ended the call and pushed off and set the phone down. He rolled out of bed and headed to the shower to get ready for the day, deciding he would call Sean when he was done with his shower.

************************************

Viggo didn’t sleep well that night, He had tossed and tuned fitfully throughout the night. When he dreamed, he had dreams of Orlando. They all centered around Orlando telling Viggo about his wife’s heart, about his heart. He kept hearing Orlando repeating over and over “I’m so sorry Viggo, I’m so, so, sorry.”

He sat up suddenly in bed and looked around. He felt something was off, but wasn’t sure what, he had a sinking feeling and he didn’t like it. It was still early, the sun rising brightly in the clear sky. He was set to talk to Orlando today, and to set things right with him. He knew he loved him before he found out about him having Christine’s heart and he knew deep down, that he still loved him just the same, if not more.

He also knew he had screwed up, when he went off on Orlando, and had left him alone on the deck while he hid away down along the beach, but he was in such a state of shock at the time that he wasn’t thinking rationally. He had hoped this wouldn’t hurt his chances of being with the young man again.

He got out of bed and showered, trying to refresh himself somewhat. To be somewhat presentable today when he talked to Orlando.

He moved on into the kitchen and first thing called Sean.

“Hey good morning Vig.” He said. “How was your night?”

“Horrid, I hardly slept at all and when I did had dreams of Orlando.”

“Good ones I hope.”

“No, not really, just replaying when he told me about his heart. Telling me with tears in his eyes how sorry he was,” he answered tiredly.

“Sorry Viggo,” he said sincerely. “I was thinking about giving him a call this morning to see how he is. Elijah’s working today, but Pete gave Orli the day off.”

“Yeah Sean, why don’t you call and make sure he’s okay. I have this kind of sick feeling going on and I’m not sure what it is.”

Sean laughed. “I think its called love Viggo.”

“Not that Sean…I feel something’s off, with Orlando, I can’t explain it.”

“I’ll give the lad a call Vig, check and see how he is doing, and then I’ll call you back alright?”

“Yeah, thanks Sean,” he replied rubbing the back of his neck. “Give me a call when you hear something alright?”

“As soon as I do you’ll be the first to know alright mate?”

“Thanks,” he said quietly and hung up the phone. He walked into the kitchen and began to clean up things from the night before. He movements slow as he set things back into there proper places. He sat down finally and laid his head down on the table. He felt like he was so drained. He knew he had behaved badly last night, he knew that Orlando didn’t deserve the treatment he had handed out.

He got up from the table and went out on the deck to have a smoke. He knew that would calm him somewhat, it always did.

He flicked the lighter and inhaled deeply, blowing the smoke and feeling a sense of release of tension. He leaned over the edge of the railing and watched the tide; The waves as they rolled in and then dribbled back out.

He was startled out of his thoughts as the phone rang and he walked quickly back in the house to grab the phone.

“Hello?”

“Hey Vig, it’s just me, Orlando’s not answering his phone. I’m going to head over to his place and check on him alright”

“Shit Sean, do you think something’s happened?” he asked nervously.

“He might just be ignoring the calls Vig, there’s no need to get upset alright?”

“Yeah, yeah, I suppose your right,” he replied as he walked back outside. “I’m having a real serious guilt trip Sean and it’s wrecking havoc with my thinking.”

“Just relax Vig, go have a smoke.”

“I was Sean, then you called and the tension all came back.”

“Sorry mate. I’ll give you a call when I know anything alright?”

Thanks Sean, call me as soon as you know?”

“I will, don’t worry, bye.”

“Bye,” he said quietly as he disconnected the line.

Viggo stared out into the waters again. “What’s going on Orlando?” he asked quietly into the early morning sun.

*****************************************

Orlando’s sleep had been interrupted several times during the night, so he finally decided to stay up and wait till the flight left, to actually try and sleep. He eagerly watched the clock on the wall as the hours and minutes ticked away, closer and closer to his departure time.

“Flight number 1377 boarding for London in 10 minutes,” came the announcer over the intercom.

“Finally,” he murmured to himself. He gathered his carry on and made his way over to the departure gate. He shifted nervously as the minutes went slower than they did all night. He turned around and looked back around the airport looking to see if he knew anyone. When he saw that no one he knew was there, he headed aboard the plane making his way down the aisle and finding his seat. He took the window seat and sat back and closed his eyes and sighed deeply, at last.

***********************************

Sean pulled up in front of Orlando’s. He glanced around for his car and didn’t see it anywhere. He frowned in confusion. He got out of the car and quickly made his way up to the door. He knocked softly at first, waiting for an answer. When none came he knocked louder. “Orlando” he called out listening intently. Minutes passed and there was still no answer. He walked down the steps and around to the back of the house. He climbed the steps up to the deck and looked in the sliding glass door. The room was dark. He tapped on the window. He felt his heart starting to beat faster. He pulled out his cell and called Elijah.

“What? ”came the quiet whisper.

“Its Sean, I’m at Orlando’s and it looks like he’s not here, have you heard from him?”

There was a pause and Sean wondered what was going on. “I’m in the middle between scenes,” he said as he came back on the line. “Pete will kill me if he sees me with my phone.”

“Well? Have you heard from Orli?” he asked again his voice getting more agitated.

“No,” he said quickly. “I gotta go Sean, Pete’s coming.”

The line went dead. “Shit,” he cursed as he slammed the phone shut. He tried the handle on the door and it opened easily. Sean stepped inside and looked around, “Orlando?” he called out. He walked down the hall to the bedroom and carefully looked inside.
He was somewhat surprised the room was empty. Too empty he thought, and looked around further. He went to the closet and looked inside. Nothing there. He then went and opened the drawers in the dresser, it was empty also. He began to panic. He walked quickly down the hall and searched the bathroom. Empty. “Fuck,” he cursed as he turned around and went back to the bedroom. He sat down on the bed and looked in the stand for a clue where he could of gone. He noticed the bent back page on the phone book and slowly reached out and pulled it open. He opened the book to the bent page. Airlines. He looked up and saw his reflection in the mirror. “Airlines!” he repeated again. And looked down on to the page. He noticed some writing on the side Flt. #1377 . “That’s a flight number,” he mumbled to himself. He shut the book and cussed loudly. “God damn it Orlando!” he swore as he threw the book back on the table. He picked up his phone as he headed out of the room.

“Answer, come one Vig,” he muttered.

“Hello,”

“Vig listen, get dressed, I’m on my way to get you!”

“Why what’s happened?” he asked nervously looking around for his shoes.

“Orlando has booked a flight out of here, we got to go to the airport. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

Sean turned his phone off and ran to his car. “Stupid elf!” he cursed as the engine turned over and the sound off rocks went unheard as he flew down the drive.

Viggo finished dressing quickly and went out front to wait for Sean; pacing nervously as he did. This was all his fault! He made Orlando feel so bad he felt it necessary to leave. He kicked at the rocks in the drive and then cussed as his toe stared to throb. He looked at his watch and then back down the road. “Come on Sean, we can’t let him go!”

One minute later Sean was pulling up beside him and Viggo barely let the car stop and got in slamming the door behind him. “What took so long?” he asked. “Its not that far down the road?”

Seam glared at him. “I called the airport…the plane leaves in half an hour.”

“We won’t make it Sean.” He said exasperated.

“I’ll do my best to get there Vig, hold on,” as he pushed harder on the gas.

*****************************************

Orlando watched out the window and shifted again in his seat. He hoped he was doing the right thing. He had so many emotions going through him right now. He pulled his cell phone out and played with it in his hands. Should he call Elijah before the plane left? He was his best friend down here and he felt bad leaving him and not telling him. He opened the phone and stared to dial the number.

“Sir, I need you to put your belt on now,” the stewardess spoke next to him.

Orlando startled and looked up. “Oh yeah, sorry,” he said putting the phone down next to him.

“That’s alright, we will be departing shortly,” she said with a smile.

“Thanks,” he smiled at her and looked at her name, Claire, he noticed as he buckled up.

“You okay?” she asked looking concerned.

“Um yeah, just a bad morning is all,” he said quietly trying to give her a reassuring smile.

“If you need anything, just holler okay?” she said pleasantly and headed to the next row of passenger’s.

“Thanks, I will.” He said as he watched her go.

He stared back out the window again. His phone call….forgotten.

************************************

Viggo and Sean pulled into the airport drop off lane, and Viggo flew out of the car and into the airport with Sean close behind him as soon as he had parked. He ran to the information counter and asked for the flight number and if it had left.

“It’s due to leave in 5 minutes sir,” she said politely.

Viggo’s face blanched. “Five minutes!” He turned and made his way up the escalator and down the busy halls. He got delayed at the checkpoint as he kept beeping as he tried to get through.. He grew agitated as they made him empty all his pockets, take off his watch, cell phone. “I don’t have time for this!” he growled out at the woman standing there.

“Vig, let them do their job!” Sean grabbed his arm from behind. “Don’t make them call security!” he hissed into his ear.

He calmed down enough then to pass through without the alarms going off.

Finally he was cleared, they both ran to the gate….Just in time to see the plane pulling away from the building.

“Nooooo,” Viggo cried out as he rushed to the window. “Orlando!” he cried, as he beat his fist on the window.

“Viggo! Calm down, he’s not going to hear you, he’s gone now,” Sean grabbed him form behind.

“No, he can’t be gone! He can’t!” he sank down to his knee’s his hands firmly placed on the window, trying to reach out for the plane that was slowly slipping away from the building further and further, as was Orlando, slipping away from Viggo.

**************************************

Orlando stared out the window as the plane pulled away. He watched as the people in the windows got smaller and smaller. He could barely see with the suns rays glancing off the windows. He noticed someone pressed against the window looking out, he leaned forward to get a better look, but he was interrupted by the stewardess again.

“Is there anything you need before we take off?” she asked sweetly.

Orlando turned his attention from the window and looked at her and saw it was the woman Claire again. “Um no,” he said quietly. “I’m fine, really…I’m fine.”

Oh man, so close!! Then again, maybe....? I was so anxious for somebody to realize that Orlando was gone...hoping that Viggo made it there on time, dang it.

I get so excited whenever I see that you've updated. I hope that Viggo and Orlando can figure everything out and be 'together'. Unless you're a horribly cruel person, I think they will get back to each other. *giggles*

Silly question for ya, is Claire a little nod to Elizabethtown? If so it's cute. If not, I'm a dork so don't mind me. ;-)
