Settling In
Viggo entered the beach house and took in his surroundings. It was simply furnished, but it was very roomy and had a spectacular view of the ocean out the back. He walked to the doors that led out back and gazed in awe at the surf. The water so clear and blue, so calming and relaxing to him. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes breathing the fresh sea air.
“Well, here’s the last Viggo.” Peter said as he sat down the last bag.
“You really didn’t have to help with the luggage Peter,” he said as he walked away from the window. Grinning as he took in the panting director. He had a sheen of sweat on his brow and a small trickle drip down the sides of his face.
“No bother, I want you to get settled in and get a good nights rest. We’re going to be working your butt off!” he laughed as he wiped his brow, frowning at the sweat.
“Oh, before I forget….the hobbits gave me the name of the pub that they’re meeting at. You don’t have to go by any means Viggo, I know you must be exhausted.”
“Yeah, I am,” he took the paper from Peter anyway and tucked it away inside his shirt pocket.
“I’ll have them drop off a vehicle for you later so you’ll have something to drive whilst you’re here.”
“Thanks again Peter, you’ve been really helpful in getting me settled in here, I really do appreciate it.”
“Well if it weren’t for you, I’d be up a creak right now without a paddle,” he laughed.
“Well, unpack, get some rest, and I will see you on set tomorrow.”
Viggo stuck out his hand. “Thanks Peter,” he said, and he meant it, not just for helping getting him settled in…but also for everything, for bringing him here for helping him possibly getting on with his life.
Peter smiled, “You are most welcome Viggo. I will see you bright and early tomorrow then.”
With that he was out the door.
Viggo stood at the door watching as the man left, shaking his head in amusement. He closed the door quietly and went to find his bedroom. He definitely wanted to lay down for a bit. He grabbed his suitcase and looked around till he found said bedroom. He unsnapped the locks and took a few clothes out and then removed the picture of his wife and set it upon the nightstand.
“Well babe, what have I got myself into?” he asked her as he sat down on the bed. He kissed his fingertips and then placed them lightly on the picture of his wife.
He lay back on the bed and closed his eyes and he was soon drifting off into a deep sleep that he hadn’t felt in a very long time.
The next thing Viggo knew when he awoke was it was now dark out. He had slept for several hours; it was 10:00 pm. He got up slowly from the bed and sat there a moment thinking about getting something to eat as he heard his stomach growling and realized he didn’t have any food. He guessed Peter forgot that part. He laughed. Well he pretty much did everything else at least Viggo could feed himself. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a glass out of the cupboard and filled it with water. He looked in the cupboards to double check but they were dry as a bone.
He fished around in his pocket and dug out the piece of paper that he had stuck in there earlier. He rubbed the piece of paper in between his fingers trying to decide if he wanted to go there. It was late, they may be gone already, but little did he know how much the hobbits and elf liked to party.
He picked up the phone and checked to see if there was a connection and luckily there was. He got the information he needed and got a cab to be sent to his house. He had a little time to clean up, so he did quickly before the cab had arrived. He checked his appearance one last time and ran out the door.
“What are you doing Orli?” Elijah asked him again for the tenth time that night.
“What? Oh nothing, just thinking,” he replied as he sat staring at the door his leg bouncing up and down nervously.
“You have been watching that door all frickin night!” he groaned. Then the light went on in his head finally, well after a couple of beers, Elijah was only half there.” You’re watching for Viggo aren’t you?” he asked kicking Orli under the table.
“No!” he answered trying to look shocked. “Of course not…why would I do that?”
“Hmm, why don’t I believe you for some reason, and as for why would you do that…well,” he answered shaking his head. “Hey, that blonde has been eyeing you all night, why don’t you go and ask her to dance?” He added trying to distract his young friend.
“Nah, I don’t think so Lij,” he answered his eyes shifting to the door again.
Elijah shook his head. He knew the elf was smitten. He knew it the night that they had watched the movie, even more after that day, when Orli had come over to the group of hobbits after he had been introduced to Viggo. They had all seen the red flush on his face,
they had seen how he had turned and watched as Viggo left. How he had talked non-stop of his encounter with Viggo.
“He’s probably at his place sleeping Orli, he has just flown over from the US,” Lij reminded him. He immediately saw the elf’s face drop into a frown.
“I know,” he whispered. “I just…” He didn’t want to admit he was attracted to Viggo and he really didn’t even know the guy. He was nothing like he had imagined, far from it.
“You’ll have plenty of time to visit with him Orli, he’s not going anywhere.” Elijah assured him.
“I know,” he answered again. “I thought he might come though,” He sat there and chewed on his thumb a very bad habit he knew but it was his own form of stress relief.
Orlando turned around and focused on his friend across from him.” Elijah, can I tell you something…personal?” he asked after a moment. His face turning to his now familiar shade of red.
“What is it Orli?” he asked trying to be a friend and not tease him so much for once.
“Um.. well.. I’m…I…. sorta…I like guys,” he spat out at last, looking down at his fingers as he twisted his ring.
Elijah tried not to smile. “We kind of thought that Orli, it’s not a big surprise.”
“Its not?” he asked. “I mean. I like girls too, but I just like guys, better,” he fidgeted with his ring on his finger twirling it round and round.
“It’s okay Orli…really, we love you no matter what,” he smiled to reassure his friend.
Orlando looked up and smiled. “Really? You sure? Your not like, freaked out or anything by it?”
“Yeah, we all kind of thought that maybe you liked guys and stuff, mostly after watching your reaction to the movie and then seeing Viggo.”
“Oh yeah, how obvious was that?” he laughed.
Elijah gave him a stunned look and snorted. “I’d have to say quite obvious. But hey, it might turn out well for you.” He said
“Why?” Orli asked now comfortable again that he had now confided in someone about his sexuality.
“Turn around and look.” Elijah smirked.
Orlando’s heart thudded in his chest as he slowly looked over his shoulder and saw Viggo standing there talking to Beanie.
Orlando was nervous now that Viggo had actually shown up. He watched as the two older men conversed by the door.
“Is he going to sit with Beanie?” Orli asked. Still watching the man.
“Don’t know, why don’t you go say hi.”
“No! I can’t do that.” He said.
“Why not? You invited him.”
“What if he really just came to talk to Beanie, they’re more the same age.”
Elijah shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know Orli, I guess you’ll have to wait and see.”
Soon though Dom and Billy came back from dancing. “Whats going on guys?” asked Billy.
“Look over there,” Elijah motioned his eyes.
They both turned and saw Viggo and Beanie still talking but now had moved by the bar.
“Oh..I see,” Dom said finally. “I’ll go invite them over.”
He got up to leave and Orli grabbed his arm. “No don’t,” he hissed. “Sit down you wanker.”
“Why not? You invited him or did you forget?” he asked as he sat back down looking at one nervous elf chewing on his thumb again.
“Just cuz,” he said finally.
“Sorry mate, too late,” Dom chuckled.
“Huh?” he whipped his head around and noticed that Billy was now heading to the two men.
“Great!” he said throwing his hands up in the air. “Just bloody f-ing great!”
“Hey Viggo!” Billy called out as he walked up to the pair. “Glad you made it.” He held out his hand once again in greeting.
Viggo smiled and shook his hand. “I rested a bit but then I got hungry, wasn’t any food at my place so here I am,”
Billy smiled,” I see yes, here you are.” He looked at Beanie and got a scowl from the older man.
“We’re sitting over by the dartboard, come over and have a seat with us,” he invited them both.
“Sean, you coming?” Viggo asked. Not wanting to be rude, but he did come over to see if Orlando actually was there.
“Yeah, I’ll come baby-sit with the children with you,” he growled as he scowled a Billy once more. But Billy stood his ground.
“Come on then,” he said and led the two men over to where he had been sitting with Dom Orlando and Elijah.
Sitting down Billy asked Viggo if he still remembered everyone’s name or did he need reintroductions.
Viggo smiled and said he was fairly good with names but he didn’t know the dark haired kid with the curly hair.
Laughter spilled around the table as that was said.
Viggo looked around at everyone and didn’t get the joke and he noticed that the young man wasn’t laughing either, but looked bright red.
He reached across the table and held out his hand. “Hi I’m Viggo Mortensen,” he said. Orlando paused as he saw the outstretched hand not knowing what to do and looking around at his friends. Everyone waited as they watched in amusement at the two.
Viggo got an odd look on his face and looked at him closer. “Have we met?” he asked. Looking into the deep brown eyes.
Orlando could only snort at that and then finally put his hand out, “Yeah mate we have, I’m Orlando Bloom.”
Viggo then felt his face flush red and his heart did flips in his chest about his blunder and everyone started laughing around the table.
“Oh shit Orlando…I’m sorry…you look um.. different.”
“Yeah I suppose so,” he laughed and then felt the tension drain away from him.
Viggo finally released the hand he held. And gazed now into brown eyes instead of blue. And he realized he was still very beautiful.
“It’s okay Viggo, you’re not the first one not to know Orli outside of his makeup. Don’t feel bad.” Chuckled Billy.
Viggo smiled but it was an embarrassed smile. “I think I need a drink, he said after a moment.
“Drinks are on Orli tonight announced Dom,” and everyone cheered. Orlando rolled his eyes and Viggo watched in fascination. Once everyone had their new drinks Beanie stood up. “Lets have a toast to our newest member, Viggo, here’s to 16 months of fellowship with your new family.” Everyone downed their drinks and ordered another round which soon became another.
An hour had passed and Viggo grew tired from the jet lag and the drinking and the large amount of food he had consumed. “Well as much as I have enjoyed tonight’s company I have an early day tomorrow.” He said as he stood up. He said his goodbyes to everyone and made a special goodbye to Orlando, once again apologizing for not recognizing him.
Orlando said not to worry about it. Viggo smiled and walked to the door a little on the unsteady side and went out to find a cab. He breathed in the fresh air trying to clear his head and thought back to the night’s events. God what a fool of a mistake did he make? Why’d did this kid affect him so? He was drawn out of his musings as he felt some warmth behind him.
“Find a way home yet?” he heard the soft English accent and knew it to be the brown eyed one.
“Not yet,” he replied as he turned and looked at Orlando. His gaze locking with the sienna ones. “Look Orlando about earlier…”
“Hey, don’t sweat it Viggo, it happens a lot. I’ve gotten use to it by now. I’m like a totally different person when I have the Legolas outfit on. I’m graceful and princely and serene. Not me at all, really.”
Viggo nodded. “I suppose I’ll look a tad different in my outfit too I guess.”
“Yeah I suppose you will. Hey! There’s a cab, grab it mate.” Orlando lunged forward.
Viggo did too at the same time the cab stopped they both grabbed for the door. One hand on top of the other.” Go ahead Viggo.” Orlando offered as he pulled his hand away. “You need your rest after the long flight.”
Viggo nodded and then said, “Why don’t we share?’
Orlando smiled, “Sounds like a plan.” And got in after Viggo watching his backside as he slid in.
Viggo gave the driver the address and the cab pulled out.
“That’s just a little ways from my place.” Orlando spoke after they had ridden a few minutes.
“They must try to keep everyone close together.”
“Yeah I suppose.” Orlando responded feeling overly shy for some reason. He watched Viggo out of the corner of his eye admiring the nice view. He started chewing on his nails again.
Soon the cab slowed down and pulled over in front of Viggos house.” Well, it’s been a interesting night Orlando, I guess I’ll see you in the morning.” He opened the door and started to get out.
Orlando thought for a minute, he didn’t want Viggo to leave. “Hey, can I use your loo real quick? I think that beers gone through me.”
“Oh…sure, I’m sure the cab can wait a minute.”
“Oh that all right I’ll just walk home when I’m done its not that far but I gotta go, like now!” he grinned.
Viggo laughed, “Sure come on,” he said as he paid the driver and strolled up the walk with Orli behind him. Viggo opened the door and pointed the way to the restroom to Orlando, who immediately headed there.
Viggo walked into the living room and turned on one of the lamps and walked to the back of the house and opened the doors and breathed in the fresh air. He listened quietly as the waters beat against the shore. Its steady roar soothing to his soul. He closed his eyes and relaxed in the darkness of the night with the stars as his only light. He breathed in deeply and smiled. God he was glad he came here.
Orlando finished his business in the loo and came out looking for Viggo and found him standing on the deck taking in the night air. He watched for a few minutes just admiring the view. He walked up slowly behind Viggo with the gracefulness of an elf.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” he said quietly as he leaned on the decks railing.
Viggo jumped from the noise at his side. “Hi, yeah it really is.”
“I stand out on my deck every night since I’ve been here, listening to the sound of the oceans roar. I heard once someone said the noise was from all the people talking in the world.”
“Really?” Viggo said with a smile.
“Yeah,” he laughed. “ Funny huh? I have been more appreciative of things in the last year or so, life’s to short to not enjoy the little things in life ya know? The stars at night, the moon, the oceans roar…” he trailed off.
Viggo thought back to what Peter had told him earlier about Orlando being through a tough time and figured that’s what he was on about.
“I think I need to enjoy it a little more than I have, I’ve kind of taken for granted the small things in life. Things haven’t really been great for me.” Viggo added softly.
Orlando looked at Viggo carefully as he said these things and thought back to what Beanie had said about the death in Viggos family. But he didn’t feel right about bringing it up. He nodded his head in understanding. “Anything you want to talk about Viggo, I’m a good listener.” He said as he laid his hand on Viggos warm arm.
Viggo gazed down at the warmth that the slender hand on his arm had given him. He smiled to himself. “Thanks Orlando, I’ll remember that, but I think I’d better get to bed right now, I’m beat.” He said tiredly.
Orlando removed his hand. “Sure, anytime though Viggo. I’ll catch you tomorrow then.” he turned around and headed back into the house with Viggo following him.
Viggo opened the door and Orlando walked outside and turned around. They stood there looking at each other for a few minutes and Viggo finally broke the silence. “I guess I’ll see you on set tomorrow then,”
“Yeah sure, night Viggo.”
“Night Orlando,”
Before Orlando got to far he turned again. “My friends call me Orli,”
Viggo grinned, “Night Orli,”
“Goodnight Viggo,” he smiled and finally turned and headed home. He had a lot of thinking to do. Something about this man had struck a cord within him that he didn’t understand. It wasn’t just physical..well it mainly was but not all. He felt like he had known him for ages and this was their first day together. He laughed to himself. Maybe we met in a former life or something. But with that thought in mind he headed home to bed.
Meanwhile Viggo watched the young man walk down the road until he disappeared in the night. He walked back into the house and turned off the lamp and made his way up into the bedroom and sat on the bed and took his shoes off. His mind went back to their conversation out on the deck and Orlando’s outlook on life. Appreciate the little things, the stars the moon the oceans roar. He laid back on the bed his clothes still on and closed his eyes and thought of sienna eyes gazing into his as he drifted off to sleep.
