Author Notes I wanted to say that I am sorry that it took me so long to get the chapter up. I have been sick all weekend with a bad UTI and stomach flu.. *needs elf love now* Sorry about the wait!
Several days had passed since Orli had awakened, and he was physically getting stronger. He was still leery of people’s touches and the only ones he would allow were Beanie and Viggo. Sean had finally convinced Viggo to go home and shower by threatening to throw him out the window if he refused, promising to stay by Orli’s side until he returned. That, added with Orli’s refusal to let him get close until he smelled much less ripe, convinced him to go. That had been nearly an hour ago. Sean had stepped out of the room on the nurse’s request and was looking out the window at the bright sun, relishing the warmth it brought to his cool skin when he heard two screams and a loud crash. Dashing into the room, nearly killing himself on the solid wood door he forgot to open, he saw Orli laying on the floor, naked and huddled into a ball. A tub of water lay splattered on the floor and the young nurse leaning against the wall. “What the fuck is going on here?” Sean demanded as he went to Orli’s side. Orli scrambled away from his touch, trembling.
“He. I. He,” the nurse stammered.
Sean noticed how pale and frightened she looked and schooled his emotions. “Take a deep breath and tell me what happened so I will know how to help him.”
“I was just going to apply his medicine and give him his bath. I, I didn’t know he was awake! Last time I was here he was in a coma!”
Sean growled, “Don’t you think it would be a good idea to check first? Do you have any bloody idea how far you might have set him back?” At this point Shawn was yelling accusingly at the young nurse giving her what for when he felt a trembling hand on his arm. His jaw snapped shut as he turned to Orli.
“Don’t please. I can’t take the yelling.” His voice was shaky and timid.
Sean looked at him and it was like a light went off in his head. He suddenly realized Orli was still lying, exposed and cold and the hard floor while he was screaming at the nurse. Lifting him onto the bed he turned to the young woman, “Go get Dr. Wesley or Dr. Murphy.” Turing his attention back to Orli he wrapped him in a sheet. “Are you alright?” He asked as he brushed the hair out of Orli’s eyes.
“No,” he snorted. “She, her hands, they,” he shook his head. “I need to get out of here Sean. I want to go home.”
Sean looked at him for a moment. “If they let you go home Orli, you know you won’t be able to stay by yourself. You are getting much stronger but you still need help, a lot of help.” He watched as sad brown eyes looked down.
“I know,” softly, “I just hate it here. So many people wanting to touch and poke on you all the time and they are so callous about it.”
Sean laughed softly. “I don’t think they are trying to be mean, love, it’s just that they are used to doing this sort of thing day in and day out so they don’t think about it being as invasive as we would. I’m sure, even though it feels like it, they are not intentionally trying to hurt you.”
Orli thought for a moment about what Bean had said. “Guess you’re right. It is their job to do those things but I just, I can’t handle it right now.” Tears brimmed in his eyes.
At that moment Viggo walked into the room. He slipped in the rather large puddle of water spread across the floor and done a good rendition of ‘Bambi on ice’ for several long seconds before landing in a sprawling heap on Orli’s bed. “What the fuck?”
Sean and Orli both broke out in fits of laughter until neither man could breath. Viggo was giving them the Aragorn death glare for several minutes before laughing himself. “I so glad you two assholes find my pain so funny. I think I pulled something,” he jokingly grumbled.
Dr. Murphy came rushing into the room slipping on the same puddle. After giving a very unmanly squeak and grabbing the doorframe to stay upright he tried to regain his composure. “Cathy said that you needed to see me right away. Is something wrong?”
Orli blushed, “ I’m sorry I guess I overreacted.”
Sean intervened, “The nurse was going to apply Orlando’s medicine and give him a bath. He was asleep at the time and she did not waken him.” Dr. Murphy sighed and closed his eyes trying to keep his cool. “I asked her why she would do that and she said last time she was working he was in a coma.”
“I am so sorry Orlando,” the doctor said as he carefully walked to the bedside. “She should have read you chart and also should have been told during shift change what your status was. Are you all right? Were you injured at all?” he asked, concerned.
“I’m fine,” softly, “just ashamed of how I reacted.”
“Don’t be,” the doctor smiled. “The things that happened to you would leave anyone jumpy much less to that sort of touch by a stranger. I apologize that it happened and I promise nothing like it will ever happen again.”
Orlando opened his mouth like he was going to say something but stopped. Sean and Viggo both chuckled at his ‘fish out of water’ look until he spoke again. “Dr. Murphy, do you think I could go home now?”
He thought for a long moment then gave him a stern look. “You would not be allowed to go home alone and you would have to continue your therapy, both physical and clinical.”
“But can’t I just have someone check on me or something? My family is in England and all my friends here work and...”
“We will take you home with us, Orli, if that’s alright with you,” Sean offered and Viggo agreed. “But you have to promise to listen to us and do as the doctor says.”
“I promise!” he beamed then looked to Dr. Murphy. “Please,” best puppy dog eyes ever.
“I don’t know,” the doctor teased for a moment then relented. “Ok you can go home in the morning if the gentlemen are willing to take you. I know it would do you well to sleep in a bed as well,” he added slapping Viggo on the shoulder.
“Thank you,” came three happy replies in unison.
Dr. Murphy shook his head and laughed as he walked out the door. Slipping again in the water and almost falling flat on his face, he yelled, “Damn it, Cathy, get in here and clean this mess up!”
