Chapter 13
Their car ride had been so far so far been in silence until Sean broke it by asking “So how has Orlando been lately?”
Viggo sighed. “I thought his recovery was coming along fine, but since this news report a week ago he hasn’t left my side. He follows me around from room to room and he can’t sleep if I’m not in the bed near him. He gets really restless if he is alone for too long.” Viggo said with a wince, remembering this morning when he had told Orlando he needed to leave the house for a while to run some errands.
Sean had called this morning saying his car didn’t want to start so he needed to be picked up from the hospital. Viggo had hesitated, knowing Orlando wouldn’t take the news well. He was right. Orlando had gone white as a ghost begging Viggo not to leave him alone. Orlando had said he would go with him but Viggo couldn’t risk Orlando being seen by anyone so he had told Orlando he needed to stay at the house. After many reassurances that he would lock the door, Viggo had left a trembling Orlando sitting on the couch.
It broke Viggo’s heart to leave Orlando like that but he knew he couldn’t coddle Orlando all the time; Orlando needed to start taking back his own life.
“I can understand his fear.” Sean stated and then took a complete 180 in the conversation and said, “I got some of his results back today from his blood tests and it didn’t look that great.”
Viggo looked at Sean sharply, “What do you mean?”
“His red blood cell count is really low, dangerously so.”
“What does that mean? Cancer? Or…”
“No, no. Nothing like that. It means his blood isn’t getting enough oxygen to keep the red blood cells alive. My guess is it would be from IDA.” At Viggo’s raised eyebrow Sean explained, “Its…well…a lack of Iron in the blood, see, Iron is part of the hemoglobin that carries oxygen around in the blood stream. Without it, his body is not getting enough oxygen for him to synthesis enough energy. That’s why he is so tired and weak all the time.”
“What caused this? Will he be okay?” Viggo asked with concern.
“Lack of proper food for all those years he was held captive by Mark most likely. He needs to get his Iron count up or it will just get worse. I’d like to put him on an IV drip, but since that can’t happen, I can recommend some pills for him.” Sean said.
“Lets stop and get some now; I want to pick up some things anyway.” Viggo told Sean in an unsteady voice as he pulled into a shopping center.
“Don’t worry Vig, he’s going be okay.” Sean reassured.
“I hope so.”
It was past noon by the time Viggo and Sean got back to the house. Viggo called out Orlando’s name as he walked though the door, telling him he was back. When he received no answer his stomach did a flip. He walked into the living room to discover it empty, same with the kitchen and all the other rooms on the first floor.
Viggo looked at Sean but Sean just shrugged his shoulders and pointed to the stairs. They went up to discover the bedroom door closed. Quietly opening it, Viggo peaked his head around the corner to find a lump under the covers of the bed, all he could see was some curly brown hair sticking out.
Walking into the room with Sean, Viggo sat down on the bed next to the still lump and gently pulled the covers away from Orlando’s face. “Orlando? Are you sleeping?” Viggo asked although he quickly discovered the answer when he saw Orlando’s eyes open wide. “Hey, we’re back now. Were you sleeping again?”
Orlando shifted out of his curled up position to face Viggo. “Yes, I was tired.” Orlando lied. In truth, he was hiding. After Viggo had left him, he tried to stay downstairs in the living room, but his anxiety had grown to unbearable levels and had sent him running upstairs to hide in the bed from enemies he was sure would walk through the door any minute.
Sean could tell Orlando was lying, his body was too tensed up to have just woken up from sleep and he could read the fear in Orlando’s brown eyes along with the relief of seeing Viggo and something else that he couldn’t identify but made him curious nonetheless.
Viggo could also tell it was a lie but he let it slide. “Well I come back bearing gifts.” At Orlando’s curious expression, Viggo grabbed the bags he had brought home with him and pulled out the bottle of pills. “You need to take one every day with your food.” At Orlando’s look of disgust Viggo and Sean started to laugh. “This is from the doctor over there.” Viggo laughed.
“I know it’s not the best thing to get, but it will help you gain some energy back faster.” Sean stated and was pleased when Orlando gave him a small smile of thanks.
“And I got this stuff for you.” Viggo said as he gave the bags to Orlando.
Orlando took the bags with hesitation. A gift? For him? He opened one of the bags to find numerous clothing articles in it. He pulled them out in awe to discover there were many socks, shirts, boxers, and pants along with a light coat. He looked up at Viggo in surprise before moving on to the next bag, inside this one were various items; a few belts, some hats, a watch, a pair of sun glasses, and two boxes of shoes.
Orlando was speechless. He couldn’t believe this was all for him, that he actually had something that now belonged to him. His vision blurred as he tried to think of something to say. “Viggo…I…” But the sudden lump in his throat stopped him from saying anymore.
“I remembered the conversation we had a few days ago about how you didn’t have anything and well I just thought that you might need some necessary items and well…we had to guess on the sizes, so if something doesn’t fit right, we can have it exchanged for another size.” Viggo babbled, not really sure what to say at this point.
Orlando nodded and swallowed the lump in his throat as he looked up at Viggo finally. “Thank you, I…you don’t know how much this means to me.” He stated quietly. He surprised himself when he leaned forward and gave Viggo a hug.
“You’re welcome.” Viggo whispered into his ear as he wrapped his arms around Orlando, holding him close.
Sean stood back and watched the scene take place with a smile on his face. He couldn’t believe how close Orlando and Viggo had gotten in the past month or so and suddenly he wondered how much closer they were going to get.

Mark sat the beers down on the table with a sigh and ignoring the thanks he received from the customers he walked back behind the bar to his stool. It had been almost a week and still he and the other had heard no news on where Orlando was. He had been forced to reopen the bar; he couldn’t afford to keep it closed any longer. No matter how much he wanted to close it and spend the time searching for Orlando it just wasn’t possible. He knew Alex was doing everything he could to find him.
“Hello!” Mark looked up to find Woody, a long time customer standing in front of him.
“Hey old man, what can I do for you?” Mark asked. Woody was a nice old toothless man who had been a customer of his since he had first opened his bar. Woody was up in his early eighties now but he could still hold his liquor like no other. Woody spent more time in his bar than he did at his own home.
“Oh, I’ll take a vodka tonic and one beer, no wait, three beers.” Woody replied with an eager look on his face.
Mark chuckled and obeyed. He knew it was a lot but he also knew Woody would be back up here in a couple hours or so asking for more. It was going to be a long night.
Two hours later the bar was packed full and Mark was lucky to be able to sit down and rest for five minutes. He glanced up from mixing some drinks when he heard the door open and close again. It was Alex with Tork and Harvey trailing him.
“Any news?” Mark asked as the men drew near.
“No. Nothing yet.” Alex replied with a sigh. The three men took a seat at the bar in front of Mark.
“If no one has come forth by now; I don’t think anyone will at all.” Tork said in a frustrated voice.
Mark could relate to their frustration; their sexual frustration. He felt it too. It had almost been a month since they had buried themselves in the hot tightness of Orlando and it was enough to drive any man insane. Mark was so horny for his little whore that he would gladly sell his soul in exchange for Orlando.
“Well what are we going to do now?” Harvey’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
“I’ll tell you what, you’re going to shut up about it for the moment!” Alex sneered. “There are a lot of people around right now. So Mark, we are going to go drink at the table over there, come to us when it clears out, ok?”
Mark nodded and watched them walk away. He took a look around at the happily drunken idiots that littered his bar and who by the looks of it had no intention of leaving anytime soon. Yes, Mark thought, it is going to be a very long night.

Viggo and Sean had moved down stairs after an emotional Orlando had fallen asleep again. They had been sitting in silence for a while now with Viggo staring into space and Sean staring at Viggo.
“I know I said this already but that was a really nice thing you did for the boy Viggo…buying him those things and all.” Sean said when he couldn’t take the silence anymore.
Viggo turned his head to look at Sean, “It was nothing really, Orlando did need some clothes, and my clothing was way too big for him.”
“I see.” Sean said casually.
Viggo’s eyes narrowed, he could hear something else in Sean’s voice. “You see? Would you care to tell me exactly what it is you see?”
Sean turned wide eyes towards Viggo, “What? I didn’t mean anything by that.”
Viggo snorted, “Right, give it up Sean, I know you too well, you have something to say, so say it.” Viggo continued to stare Sean down until Sean turned his eyes away and
gave a big sigh.
“Ok, Viggo. I want to know what your plan is.”
“My plan?”
“Yes! Your plan with Orlando, have you given it any thought?”
“You’ve lost me Sean.” Viggo said as he closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose. In all honesty he did understand what Sean was asking; he just didn’t want to talk about it. He hadn’t really given his situation any thought; he had just gone day by day, taking things as they came.
Sean sighed and in a soft voice said, “Viggo, what are you going to do? Honestly mate, you said you were taking care of him till he got better, well he’s almost there, so then what are you going to do?”
“I don’t know Sean. He has no family, no money, no where to go, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
“So are you just going to let him stay here? Are you going to keep him locked in the house for the rest of his life?”
“Of course not!” Viggo snapped angrily. “Once I know he’s healthy and safe, then I’ll let him do what he wants, but I won’t let him go till those men are put away for life! I’ll help him find a job or house or whatever he needs when the time comes, ok?”
Sean held up his hand. “Whoa, Vig, don’t yell, I was just asking! You know I want to help him as much as you do. I’ll help him in any way I can, you know that right?”
“I know.” Viggo sighed, “Thanks Sean.”
Sean nodded as silence once again descended on the room.
“Viggo?”
“Yeah Sean?”
“Why are you doing this for him?” Sean asked quietly.
“My heart went out to the boy the minute I saw his broken body, I just wanted to help him.”
“You did, so why did you keep him and not dump him at the hospital or a shelter or somewhere safe like that?”
“I…he…he was scared, he needed a friend, someone he could trust and as time went by he started to trust me more, so I let him stay here with me.” Viggo shifted uncomfortably in the chair looking closely at Sean.
“So that’s all, no other reasons?” Sean pushed.
“No, what else would there be?” Viggo asked anxiously.
Sean shrugged, “I’ve seen the way you look at him Viggo…are you falling for the boy?”
Sean asked with a small smile on his face.
Viggo laughter was strained, “Of course not! That’s silly. No…no…” But Viggo couldn’t make himself believe that. Of course he felt an attraction to Orlando, the young man was drop dead gorgeous, but love? Was he falling in love with that sweet, beautiful man upstairs? No…well maybe…a little bit…ok, maybe more than a little bit?
Sean chuckled. “Right mate, you sure about that?”
Viggo remained silent, there was no use answering, he already knew the answer and he knew Sean already knew the answer also.

It was almost midnight when the bar started to clear out. Mark looked up as the last of the men filed out and noticed Woody still chugging down beer in the opposite corner of the bar from where Alex and the other where sitting. Deciding Woody wouldn’t hear anything, Mark made his way over to their table.
“Ok let’s talk.” Mark said as he sat down beside Alex.
Alex gave him a glare and pointed his head at Woody.
“Oh he is harmless; he’s probably too drunk right now to process what were saying anyway.” Mark explained.
“Fine, look I’ve been thinking this through and I think we should look at the security tape for that night.” Alex stated quietly.
“This idiot turns them off when he leaves, Alex. Or else we could have found out who took him by watching it happen!” Tork sneered.
“I know that! I meant, whoever took him would probably have been in the bar that night, right? Or why else would it have been that night and not another?” Alex explained rather calmly even though his face was getting red with anger.
“I guess that makes sense. I still have the tapes from that night, let me go get them.” Mark said as he got up to walk into the little room behind the bar.
“You think the person was in here that night also?” Harvey asked Alex.
“Sure, you should know as well as I do that thief’s usually scope out the place they’re breaking into before hand. He probably broke in expecting to find booze and money and instead found our little boy.”
“So what do you think he did with our boy then?” Tork asked.
Alex shrugged, he had no idea.
Mark walked back to the table after finding the tape and stuck it into the TV that was hanging on the wall, switching it off football and playing the tape. The men scooted their chairs closer to the table and studied the screen.
There was nothing out of the ordinary.
“You recognize all these guys?” Alex asked.
Mark sighed. “Yeah, they’re all regulars. I’ll fast forward it a bit.”
“What about him?” Tork asked suddenly, pointing to a man on the screen.
Mark paused the tape and looked. “Naw, that’s Jo, he wouldn’t break into the bar.”
They continued to fast forward and stop the tape every once in a while, but all the men were known by at least one of the men. Mark sighed, he was getting frustrated even more, and they were now back where they had started from the night Orlando was taken.
“Wait! Stop the tape!” Mark exclaimed suddenly.
“What?” All three men asked in unison.
“Those men I don’t know.” Mark explained pointing to two men who had walked in and sat in the corner looking uncomfortable.
All four men leaned in closer to get a better look.
“I remember them now; they said it was their first time here.” Mark said.
“Wait….doesn’t that blond man look familiar?” Tork asked.
“No.”
“No.”
“Yes, now that you mention it, he does.” Alex said as he desperately tried to remember where he had seen this face before. A few minutes of silence passed before he continued, “He’s the doctor fellow. The one we talked to in the hospital when we went looking for Orlando, remember Tork?”
“Oh yeah, you’re right…why the hell would a doctor need to break into a bar?” Tork exclaimed with a laugh.
“You’re right, I guess it couldn’t have been them.” Mark said and silence once again settled over them.
“Ohhh! Isss thiss movy timm?” Came a shout from right behind them that had all four men jumping with surprise.
They whipped around to find Woody standing behind them.
“No, old man, just a bit of business.” Mark explained as he tried to calm his breathing.
“Ohhhh! That’sss tooo bad.” Woody slurred. “That’sss no fun.” Woody looked at the two men on the screen and said, “Ohhh, it’sss your bad boyyy.”
Alex perked up a bit. “What do you mean?”
Woody ignored him, “It’sss tooo bad bout your son.”
Four pairs of eyes instantly went wide.
“My son, what are you taking about old man?” Mark demanded.
“Welllll, your son….I member when he ran awayyy and then you got im back only to have himmmm run awayyy agan.”
“Huh?” Alex asked again.
But Woody ignore him again and continued to stare at Mark, “I sawww thee news…I didn’t know heee wasss crazyyy! Butt that maan took im back I guesss…”
“What man? Woody concentrate! When did you see my step son?” Mark asked as excitement rose up in him.
“Ohhh youu know, leaving the bar at night bout a year agooo, noo, a week…umm…month agooo or sometime like that. Guesssss he wanted to run awayyy again.” Woody said as he turned and headed for the door. “I wasss just going back home when I saw them.”
All four men looked at each other in surprise.
“Woody!” Mark yelled, “Who did my step son leave with?”
Woody stumbled against the door as he turned and pointed at the man sitting next to the doctor. “Him.”

“Him.”

Date: 2005-09-21 11:26 pm (UTC)I'll admit that when I read the first chapter of this I didn't really think I could read any more of it. I thought it too brutal. But I'm glad I ventured in for a look at the next few chapters. I've been anxiously awaiting an update and how nice to have one on my birthday. Thanks for updating and don't keep us in the dark too long.
