Running on Faith - Chapter 14
Dec. 1st, 2011 09:37 pmFor some insane reason I posted this chapter over at Mirrormere and then didn't get around to posting it here. Almost finished with the next one - we are getting close to the end.
Viggo sat on the rocks over to the side, waiting for everyone to set up the next scene. It was to be an easy one; Aragorn falls over the edge of the cliff into the river, and then floats downstream to the riverbank. Peter had already come over and gone through the scene with him and Viggo had watched one of the crew perform this same stunt earlier in the day to make sure it would run smoothly. Floating in the water; it’ll be a piece of cake.
He was glad to have a few moments of peace and quiet. The weekend had been long and Viggo spent the majority of the two days alone in the house. When he got back from the store on Saturday, he realized that Orlando had been there. There were a few things missing, some moved around, and then there was Orlando’s cologne. That was the first thing Viggo noticed. The knife in his heart seemed to twist more, and he spent the rest of his time drowning his sorrows in Jack Daniels. He was tired, not sleeping much except when he passed out from too much liquor.
He was pulled from his reverie as Peter told him they were ready to start. Out of habit, Viggo looked around for Orlando and then remembered that he wasn't needed on the set until later in the day. Viggo let out a deep breath. It was time to go to work.
He stood at the edge of the bank as they reviewed the scene one more time, then he eased off into the water, preparing to float downstream. It only took a few moments for Viggo to realize that his costume was going to drag him under the water. One second he was floating and in the next moment he was completely under the water. Viggo was an expert swimmer and shouldn't have any trouble pushing himself off the bottom to get some air, but Viggo realized that he really didn't care. He closed his eyes, letting his body drift deeper into the cold water. He knew he couldn't hold his breath much longer, his mind filled with thoughts of Orlando and how much he loved him.
The next thing that Viggo remembered was lying on the bank of the river. There was someone straddling his legs doing chest compressions. He began to cough as the water poured out of his mouth and he felt his body being rolled to the side to help him clear his lungs. After a few moments Viggo waved them off, trying to tell them that he was okay. He could feel someone helping him to sit up and Viggo turned to see Gary kneeling by him, his clothes completely soaked. It was Gary that pulled him up out of the river and saved his life. Viggo tried to speak to him but found that he was very hoarse. Gary shushed him, telling him not to talk. Suddenly there were medics all around, pulling Viggo onto a gurney and lifting him into the waiting ambulance. Viggo didn't want to go to the hospital but he knew protesting would not help, Peter would not let him back on the set until he got checked out.

Several hours later at the hospital, Viggo found himself in a hospital bed in a room. Against Viggo’s wishes the doctor had admitted him for observation overnight, saying that they wanted to give him some breathing treatments to ensure that he didn't develop pneumonia. He had dozed on and on with for the last hour, but now found that he couldn't go back to sleep. He wondered if this is how Orlando felt when he was in the hospital, extremely tired and all alone. He felt so cold despite the blankets that were piled on top of him. Viggo couldn't help his body shivering and he wondered how long these chills were going to last. He was pulled from his thoughts at the sound of the door opening and he was shocked to turn and see Orlando standing in the doorway, his eyes red from crying.
Orlando stood there for a few moments and then found himself moving across the room and leaning down to wrap his arms around Viggo's neck. His tears came freely now, and Orlando couldn't help the sobs that were torn from his throat. Viggo was stunned for a few moments and then he finally reacted, sliding his arms around Orlando as he slowly rubbed his hand up and down his back. Finally Orlando's tears subsided and he pulled away from Viggo, suddenly self-conscious of his outpouring of emotion.
Orlando sat down on the edge of the bed as he furiously wiped at his eyes. "I'm sorry… So sorry. It's just that I heard you were hurt and nobody knew anything other than they had brought you to the hospital."
Viggo reached out with one hand and cupped Orlando’s cheek, slowly trailing his thumb along his cheekbone. His voice was raspy and low and hurt to talk, so Viggo spoke as carefully as he could. "They are just keeping me here for observation. I'll be okay."
They stared at each other for a long while, and Viggo couldn't hold back his tears any longer. "I miss you so much Lan. I feel like I'm dying on the inside and I am lost without you."
Orlando’s eyes had started to spill over and he felt as if his heart was going to burst. "I don't know how to work this out, but I can't live without you anymore. It hurts so much."
Viggo scooted over on the bed, pulling Orlando down and into his arms. It felt so good to hold him again and for the first time in a long while he felt at peace. He rubbed his hands soothingly over Orlando's back, pressing soft kisses to the top of his head. Orlando cried until he had no more tears to give, and then Viggo felt him slowly relax as he fell asleep.
They slept curled around each other for several hours until a nurse came in to check Viggo's vital signs. Orlando looked embarrassed as he quickly moved from the bed to make room. She checked him over quickly and then she told him to call if he needed anything.
Viggo thanked her and then turned his gaze towards Orlando again. "You should go home baby, and try to get some rest. You look so tired."
Orlando shook his head. "No, I'm staying here with you tonight. It doesn't matter anyway, I don't have a way to get home."
Viggo looked at him quizzically and Orlando shrugged his shoulders. "Gary sought me out on the set and told me what happened. He drove me out here because I was too upset to drive myself."
Viggo gave him a small smile as he turned onto his side, making room for Orlando. "Come here Lan."
Orlando didn't hesitate. He slipped off his shoes and climbed under the covers, sliding into Viggo’s arms until they were spooned together. Orlando was exhausted and knew that he would fall asleep quickly. He could feel Viggo’s warm breath wafting over his neck, and he shivered at the sensation.
Viggo pressed a soft kiss behind Orlando’s ear. “I love you Lan.”
Orlando swallowed hard, trying to keep his tears at bay. He raised their clasped hands, pressing them to his lips. “I love you too Vig.”

Date: 2011-12-02 08:29 pm (UTC)I was really afraid for Viggo, very much, but I am so happy that finally they have found. They are meant to be together.
Thanks also to Gary! ^ _ ^
I'm really happy about this chapter, to a certain point I was afraid something would happen to one of the two.
Thanks for the update, wait for the final!
