Orlando walked into work hours later totally exhausted. He didn’t want to be here. He had tried resting when he had gotten home, but his thoughts had continually drifted back to Viggo each time, and then he got frustrated with the situation he was in. He didn’t think he had overreacted, but he thought Viggo had. He had several messages on his phone at home, and several on his cell. All from Viggo. All asking him to call.

Orlando tied his server apron around his waist and picked up a couple pens and the general stuff he used during his shift and walked back to the café area.

Billy was wiping glasses when he saw his friend walking slowly towards him with his head down, very much distracted.

“Hey Orli,” he called as his friend walked into the bar.

“Hi Bill’s,” he replied glumly.

“What’s up lad?” He asked concerned immediately for his friend. “You look like a kicked puppy?”

Orlando let out a deep sigh. “I feel like I’ve been kicked, that’s for sure,” he said as he slumped into the bar chair. He paused wondering if he should tell his friend or not because he didn’t want to hear any “I told you so’s”.

Billy waited a few minutes, wiping the glass more than needed, waiting for Orlando to spill. When he didn’t, he finally took up the unspoken question. “You and that guy have a falling out?” he asked.

Orlando looked up and opened his mouth to speak, but only nodded and lowered his head again and played with the lines in the counters tiles.

“You up to talking about it? Billy asked. Trying to remain neutral about the situation, knowing Orlando didn’t need to hear him saying he was right, even though he was.

“I don’t know Bill’s,” he said with a sigh , rubbing his forehead tiredly. “We kind of got into a little spat earlier today.”

“And,” he pushed gently.

“He got all upset that I was at the hospital. He thought his wife would catch us together and make things worse.”

“And did it?”

“No, she wasn’t there, I just got mad and left. He’s left messages on my phones to call…but I really don’t feel like talking to him right now, ya know?”

“Sure mate, I get it. You need a little alone time to sort things out.”

“Yeah, I need to revaluate things a bit,” Orlando sighed as he looked at his watch. “I need to clock in to start working,” he said as he got up from his chair. “I may talk to you later Bill’s, okay?”

“Yeah sure mate, whenever,” the bartender smiled as he patted the other on the back. “Have a good night I’ll catch up with you later.”

“Yeah,” he said as he made his way to the hostess station to let them know he was now available for customers to be seated in his section.

Hour’s passed, and Orlando had finally gotten into a better mood. He loved serving his customers and he had his favorites. Viggo being one, no, he wouldn’t think about Viggo. He didn’t’ need to spoil his good mood.

“Orli,” the hostess called his name as he was walking back to the kitchen.

“Yeah luv?“ he answered, pausing as he was going through the entryway.

“There’s a customer that’s requesting you, but you have all your tables full. I know sometimes you take on your favorites anyway so I thought I would ask just to be sure.”

Orlando felt his heart beat faster. Could it be Viggo? He didn’t think he would be able to serve him tonight. He was still quite put out with him about their earlier argument.

“I’m really busy luv, you’ll have to tell whomever it is I’m full okay?” he smiled kindly at her.

Sure,” she said and headed back up front to inform the handsome man that was waiting that he couldn’t get the requested server.

Viggo waited patiently in the lobby for the girl to come back. He had waited until the other guest had been helped and had requested Orlando, hoping he could talk to the young man and see if they could work things out.
He played with his bandaged hand and then smiled as the hostess came back up front.

“I’m sorry sir, but Orlando is unable to take you tonight. His tables are full as it is and he is overworked right now.

Viggo felt his stomach twist. “How long til he has an open table?

The young lady looked at the seating charts “It might be some time sir. He just had a big table sat down so at least an hour.”

Viggo shifted nervously, thinking about what to now. He could wait for him. But he was anxious to see him. “Is there an opening near his section?” he asked finally.

She looked again to see if there was an opening. “I do have one available sir” she said finally. “Follow me please,” she added as she grabbed a menu and led him down the long hall.

Viggo glanced around hoping to see his lover, bit the place was quite busy and there were a lot of waiters running back and forth.

“Here you are sir,” she said and laid the menu on the table and picked up the other serving sets on the table. “Enjoy your meal.”

“Thanks” Viggo smiled as he sat. He watched her leave and looked around.

Even if he did see Orlando, it would be hard to talk to him, if he would even talk to him. But he had time, he would wait.

Orlando walked out the kitchen door and immediately spotted Viggo. He felt his heart hammering in his chest. He took a deep breath and walked over to his intended table, laying out the various plates and salads and soups, trying to act as normal as he could given that Viggo sat just a few feet away.

Viggo was staring at the young waiter, noticing his tense posture. He knew Orlando has seen him. Knew he was the reason for it. He waited until he could get his attention once he was done serving this course of the meal.

“Sir?” came a voice from far away. “Sir?”

Viggo drew his eyes away from the taut backside of his lover leaning over and finally noticed a man waiting beside him at his table with paper and pen in his hand.

“Oh, sorry,” he said clearing his throat.

“No worries,” he replied. “I’m Billy, I’ll be your server for the night.”

“Oh, yes um…yes, I’ll have the lasagna tonight,” he stated quickly as he shoved the menu across the table. Eager to have the waiter that was now in his way, from seeing Orlando.

“Okay, yes sir, “ Billy wrote down quickly, “and will that be soup or salad?”

Viggo had turned his attention back to the table behind Billy again, desperate to see any sight of Orlando and getting his attention.

“Sir?” he asked again, a little more sharply.

“What?” Viggo snapped back.

“Soup or salad?” he said slower this time.

“Salad, water to drink, that is all,” he replied. Then added, “Please.”

“Yes sir,” said Billy, who turned and glanced Orlando’s way noticing he had been listening. He arched his brow at him.

Orlando shook his head, “kitchen,” he mouthed, and walked quickly away before Billy could leave Viggo.

Viggo sighed as he watched Orlando quickly walk back to the kitchen doors. This was going to be a long night he thought to himself.

Billy walked into the kitchen and was grabbed quickly by Orlando. “What did he say?” he asked eagerly.

“Nothin’ came the reply. “He was to busy trying to get a glimpse of you and ignoring me, barely able to order he was.” Billy huffed.

Orlando bit at the side of his nails viscously, tearing the skin.

Billy grabbed his hand and pulled it out of his mouth. “Stop that, its unsanitary!” he scolded.

“Sorry mate, “ he answered trying to keep the digit from his mouth. “I’m so bloody nervous.”

“Well, just wait on your tables and I’ll try to keep him distracted while you do.” Billy answered.

“Whose going to distract me?” he mumbled under his breath.

“Come on Orli, we got tables waiting for us.”

Orlando nodded and went to see if his food was prepared, waiting anxiously for Billy once he was ready.

They both peeked out the kitchen door, watching Viggo as he picked at his napkin, played with his hair, and shifted back and forth in his seat. His eyes occasionally roaming towards the kitchen door.

“He saw me!” Orlando hissed as he pulled Billy to the side.

“No he didn’t, stop that Orli, you’re making things worse.” Billy chided him. “Come on,” he said as he pushed his hip against the door.

Orlando had no choice but to follow, and he could feel those piercing blue eyes on him already, he tried not to look. He kept his mind focused on his tables. He picked up the empty plates and tried to be pleasant. He heard someone clearing their throat. He knew without looking it was Viggo, he was trying to get his attention.

“Orlando,” he whispered quietly as he watched the young man clear the table of dirty dishes. “Orli!” he tried a little louder.

Orlando bit his lip and kept working, ignoring the voice behind him. Trying to work fast so he could leave.

Viggo was just about to get up and go tap the young mans shoulder when Billy walked up to the table. ”How’s everything sir?” he asked politely.

“Fine,” Viggo replied sitting back in his seat, scowling.

“Good, that’s good, Your dinner should be here shortly, I’ll just check on it.”

Billy scooted over to Orlando and grabbed some of the plates. “Come on lad,” he whispered as quiet as he could.

“Yeah, yeah, just…hold on,” he said as he grabbed the last plate. Then they quickly disappeared back to the kitchen.

“Oh god,” he moaned as he sat the plates in the sink. “I can’t do this Bill.” he rubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands until he saw black spots. “I;m a wreck!”

“Just a bit longer, Maybe you can get off early. Say your sick.”

“Yeah, I could try that,” he said as he saw the plates going up for his order.
“Shit Bills the order’s ready already,” he moaned as he grabbed the platters and placed them on the tray.

“Don’t over do it Orli, those plates are heavy,” Billy warned.

“I know.” he said as he grabbed the stand. He took a deep breath and pushed open the door with his arm walking to the table. He sat the stand down and looked to set the tray on top and he came face to face with Viggo, and the tray slid numbly from his hand.

“Oh fuck,” he breathed.
