As soon as Viggo wheeled inside Orlando’s head turned and his tired looking eyes took in Viggo’s appearance, and when he found nothing majorly wrong with him let out the breath he’d been holding.

"You found me. I hate it here Viggo, hate this hospital. Can we go home?"

Viggo really wanted to do just that, just whisk him away, but knew it was not going to happen, not yet.

"Sorry baby, not until you’re okay. Can you tell me what kind of injuries you have? Please tell me it’s nothing permanent. I couldn’t live with that. I’m so sorry love; I should’ve paid more attention on that road, not driven so fast. I just wanted to get back home soon. Forgive me, please..."

Viggo would probably have babbled much longer, but Orlando silenced him with a finger on his lips.

"Viggo, it wasn’t your fault... No, it wasn’t, don’t interrupt me. You did what everybody would’ve done. It was a reflex, not your fault. And no, there is no permanent damage. Just this broken vertebra, but it’s not gonna give me much trouble. It hurts, and my walking may be a bit wobbly for a while, but nothing worse."

"I was so scared back there in the truck, I thought I’d lost you, and it hurt me more than anything ever has. You can’t believe how relieved I am. May I kiss you right about now?"

"You’d better. You weren’t the only one scared; I need to feel you, please."

Viggo stood up and pushed the wheelchair away, bending over Orlando’s bed to give him a long deep kiss. They both needed the physical contact to believe everything was going to be alright. So one kiss led to another and yet another while Viggo practically pulled Orlando into his lap so they could hug and touch.

What they failed to notice was a man outside the big open door. He had been walking down the corridor on his way to see his wife, when he had looked into the room. He instantly realized who those two were, and what they were doing. He quickly pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and took a few pictures. He was going to get a huge fee by selling those pictures. He promptly forgot all about his wife and went to search for the highest bidder.

Orlando fell back onto the soft cushions feeling just as relieved as Viggo as they broke apart, needing air. The tired smile he gave Viggo and the light squeeze of his hand were everything Viggo needed to know. They would pull this through just fine.

Orlando yawned and he nearly fell asleep watching Viggo change into his street clothes through half lidded eyes.

"I...uh...didn't have much time to change down there, you know... I raised my voice to a nurse who was only thinking about my best when all I could think of was how I could reach you the soonest." Viggo explained, an embarrassed blush coloring his cheeks.

"I've already been discharged with... um...a concussion. It's...Fuck!" Viggo growled through gritted teeth as he pinched the bridge of his nose trying to fight back yet another wave of tears.

"Hey..." Orlando began with a soft voice taking Viggo's hand in his. "I already told you... This wasn't your fault. It was a reflex you had that saved us both. I don't want to think about what would have happened if..." Orlando didn't manage to finish the sentence before he was kissed silent, gently and thoroughly, just like Viggo always kissed him.

A nurse came by the door stopping in her tracks and a surprised 'Oh, I'm sorry' escaped her lips as she retreated back a few steps. Viggo glanced at his watch and sighed, sniffed and then looked at Orlando, his lower lip trembling. "I have to go. I'm sure the visiting hours are already over. I wish I could stay. I..."

"Oh, shush. Call me tomorrow. Maybe they'll let me go home tomorrow after the doc has done his round."

"I'll come over. I just... I can't stay away from you, not now, not after this." Orlando gave Viggo a tired but loving and warm smile before nodding.

“I love you, Vig.”

“Gods...” Viggo gasped as his eyes filled with tears. “I love you, too.”

Pressing one final soft kiss on Orlando's lips and brushing his hand through the soft, messy curls, Viggo walked out of the room and out of the hospital.

~x~

Orlando was almost ready to leave the hospital. Doctors had declared him well enough to go home as long as he had someone who could help him if needed. He had called Viggo to find out if he would come to the hospital with a taxi and they could go home together. Viggo had promised to do just that and now it was time to leave. Orlando couldn’t be happier, he really disliked hospitals, and this place had all that nasty hospital smell and noise and look that they always had. Getting home with Viggo sounded heavenly.

He was pulling his socks on when he heard his cell phone ringing. It had survived the crash in his pocket, and now it was ringing the tune that meant his publicist was calling him. And she really shouldn’t be. Orli had stated clearly enough that he was on a holiday, and anything else would have to wait. So why was she calling now? Feeling mildly pissed he answered the phone.

"Okay, what part of *don’t call me while I’m away* didn’t you understand?"

"Well, considering what is all over the news I thought I should call and ask a big What The Hell Were You Thinking About!?"

"What do you mean? I haven’t done anything that should be considered news."

"Oh, if you have a TV near, would you open it on Chanel 6 and tell me if that’s nothing."

Orlando located the remote and opened the TV. His face went almost white and he had one of those moments where everything seems to stop. Right there, on the entertainment section of the news were pictures of him and Viggo. There, at the hospital. Kissing and cuddling. And then other pictures, older. Of the two of them. On the Rings premieres, on set, even some very longing looks from the movies. The reporter was recapping all their known history together, comments they had made, everything. Orli couldn’t watch it, didn’t want to see their lives dissected for the entertainment of others. Blindly he closed the TV and put the phone back to his ear.

"I don’t understand. I really don’t. We... I... I don’t know how this happened."

"From the looks of it you were in a hospital and you two idiots left a window or a door open, that’s how it has happened. Do you have any idea what kind of disaster this is to you career?!"

"Stop it! Now! We had an accident, we were just so happy that we were both alive that we didn’t stop and think of sodding doors!"

"Well, you should have. I don’t know what kind of explanation we will have to come up with in order to brush this away. You must return to LA at once, and stay away from Viggo for God’s sake."

This was it. Orlando Bloom had played the game by someone else’s rules long enough. It was time to start playing it the way he wanted. He needed to talk with Viggo first, but no-one, especially his bossy publicist, would tell him to keep away from Viggo anymore.

"You know what; I’m done listening to you telling me how I should live my life. It really isn’t your business. In fact I’ll make it so it isn’t your job anymore. Consider yourself fired."

"You can’t do that! You need me to make this right, you can’t just throw everything away for some boring old actor who..."

"Don’t you dare continue! Viggo has more talent and personality in his pinky toe than you have in your whole self. I’ll get a lawyer to level things with you. Me, I don’t ever wanna hear from you again."

With that Orlando ended the phone call and tried to call Viggo immediately, but he wasn’t answering. He probably had left his cell at home. Well, he would meet him soon enough. Orli finished dressing in the clothes that the hospital had provided, his own been basically cut in pieces. He left the room and went to the elevators, to meet Viggo downstairs.

~x~

The whole waiting hall was crowded as Viggo was about to walk in; reporters and patients with their relatives were milling around and there was no way for him to walk in through the main entrance. He quickly backed away and moved aside trying in vain to think of a way to get in without anyone noticing. Viggo had seen the same news, read about them in the morning paper, and he was already sporting a nice headache that had absolutely nothing to do with the accident.

“Mr. Mortensen?” a soft female voice asked.

‘Fuck!’ Viggo thought before turning around and let out a long sigh of relief as one of the nurses he had met yesterday stood there at the side entrance door.

“I thought you’d be hiding somewhere. Well, come on in. Orlando is about ready to leave.”

“Thanks.” Viggo murmured and walked in, following the nurse through an endless stairwell upwards until they reached the floor where Orlando was. He hurried to the room and quickly closed the door after him.

“We made a mess, didn’t we?” Orlando asked, his eyes glaring at his phone before he threw it onto the bed.

“We got a little carried away. I just... I feel like it’s my fault there’s a ruckus downstairs. I mean... I think it was me who left the door open.”

“It’s all around the world by now, saw it on TV. Media is picking up stuff to make it juicier.” Orlando said, sighing, and Viggo grimaced.

“I can’t help but think of all the damage this is doing to your career.” Viggo murmured, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. Orlando looked up into Viggo’s eyes and smiled shaking his head.

“You’re not at fault here. I’m just as guilty as you are. It was time for us to come out anyway, don’t you think? I’m sick of living the lie. I’m sick of dating girls to keep a certain image up. So what if I’m not sought out after this? I don’t care THAT much. Of course acting is my job, the only job I’ve known so far but it’s not what’s the most important thing in my life. This world is full of opportunities, Vig. This won’t crush us, or kill our careers. Of course this might put a damper on us, on roles that may be offered to us, but that’s it.” Orlando said and walked to Viggo taking his face between his hands.

“I want us to start living, Vig, as a couple, without having to hide the fact that we are together. If I have to sacrifice my career in the movie industry, then so be it. You are more worthwhile than any role I may ever do.”

Viggo stared at Orlando, completely flabbergasted. He had seen Orlando growing up to become an independent man, but this was something completely new. Orlando was confident, he knew the risks there was, what he or the both of them might lose. Shaking his head, Viggo pulled Orlando into a hug and then gave him a small but a heartfelt kiss.

~x~

That’s how the nurse found them, still holding each other, exchanging little kisses. She knocked on the doorframe to make her presence known.

"Sorry, but we would like to know what to do with the mess downstairs. Do we tell security to make everyone leave the hospital area or what?"

It was Orlando who answered, moving to sit on the bed, picking up his cell phone.

"I don’t think you can get rid of them unless we make some sort of statement. We’ll go there soon. And we are so sorry for this whole chaos, it must have made things difficult here."

The nurse just smiled shaking her head a bit.

"Nonsense. You are two people obviously in love, who were in an accident that might’ve cost your lives. When you found out that you were okay, you were relieved and showed it. There’s nothing wrong there. You can’t help who you are."

Viggo and Orlando looked at each other with an is-it-really-that-simple-look. And it really was. This time it was Viggo who answered.

"You are one very wise woman. Thank you. It’s easy to forget that that’s who we are, two people in love, just that. We’ll have to make some calls, but then we’re going there and just be... us."

"Yeah, thank you. For everything. Would you give our thanks to everyone who helped us here? I’m afraid I don’t remember any names."

"Sure, I’ll tell everyone. And feel free to stay here while you make your calls. Goodbye then, and good luck, you’re going to need it, I’m afraid."

She closed the door behind her and they were alone again. Viggo looked at Orlando, smiled and asked:

"You wanna call my dear ex? I of course called her and Henry already, but then I didn’t know what we were gonna do about this. My head already hurts enough so if you love me you call her. I’ll take your mum in exchange? Please."

"You don’t have what it takes to make decent puppy dog eyes, so save it. Of course I’ll call her. You call Henry and my mum, and I call Sam. I think everyone else, including your brothers, will get a text message. We’ll call them when we get back home and you get some more rest. Does that sound good?"

"Sounds really good. The sooner we take care of things here, the sooner we can be at home and stop and think of what this all means. I don’t believe we fully get this yet, I know I don’t."

Orli raised his hand and stroked Viggo’s cheek lightly.

"I don’t either, but we’ll find out together, right?"

Viggo did the same thing with his hand and answered simply.

“Right. Together.”

Five years later...

"What kind of apples did you want Vig? Green or red?"

Viggo turned to look at Orlando from the herbs he had been looking at, trying to decide what would make the trout they were having for dinner taste the most delicious.

"Red ones I think. Pick at least eight, I need a few for the fruit salad."

When Orlando turned back to pick the apples, a woman in her thirties asked shyly,

"Hey, I’m terribly sorry to bother you, but would you let me take your picture? I would just click my cell real quickly."

Orlando smiled at her, she was very obviously pregnant and she didn’t look a bit like a manic fan, just shy and smiling.

"Sure, go ahead. Where do you want me to stand?"

Before she had a chance to answer Viggo walked to Orlando with their shopping cart, failing to notice the woman.

"I think I found the right one babe, this is gonna be so good... Sorry, I didn’t realize you were chatting. I’ll wait over there."

The woman quickly grabbed Viggo’s cart stopping him.

"No, please stay. I mean, It’s one thing to get a pic of Orlando Bloom, but it gets even better if I get Viggo Mortensen’s too. Just wait right there. *click* *click* Thank you so much. You don’t know how happy I am that I met you."

Viggo looked at Orlando, raised his eye brows in a question, and when Orlando nodded, he said,

"Would you like to have a third one? With the both of us?"

"Really? You would seriously let me take a pic of you guys together?"

"Well, it’s not like nobody has ever seen us together in the last five years. So yeah, go ahead."

With that Viggo grabbed Orlando’s head gently and kissed him firmly on the mouth.
