Title: The Madhouse
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Fandom: LotRPS
Summary: Viggo is a consultant in one of the busiest A&E departments in London. Orlando is just starting out as a resident and quite obviously Viggo hates his guts. Or does he?
Pairing: Viggo/Orlando
Genre: slash
Warnings: AU. This story takes place in a hospital, so please expect needles, monitors that beep and the occasional blood-splatter. And yes, patients might die. If it’s any consolation: This is more “Grey’s Anatomy” than it is “The Pitt”.
Rating: Explicit
Disclaimer: I’m sure many people are called Viggo or Orlando. But I can promise that I don’t know any of them. (And that’s a shame.)
Author’s Note I: This is a very late entry for 2025’s Medwhumpmay. The prompt sheet can be found here. And while this story contains a bit of whump and h/c the main focus is the character dynamics. I started writing this having no more than the premise for the first chapter and the authorial voice. I love to research and I love to make the backdrop of my stories as realistic as possible. But maybe it’s better if you imagine that my evil twin wrote this story. The idea here was to explore a different version of V/O. I never planned on the story getting this long and elaborate. Initially, this was simply a palate cleanser that I wrote in-between; research and accuracy weren’t exactly at the forefront. Which is to say: I apologise to everyone working in the medical field. I know this is not how foundation training works. And I know this has basically zero in common with the inner workings of the NHS. Just roll with it. This one was written for funsies!
Author’s Note II: This story was heavily inspired by me binging “24 Hours in A&E”. That show is actually where the title comes from. Some episodes inspired chapters in this story. And even if the story doesn’t come with my usual level of research the medical facts and procedures are as accurate as I could make them (as an ordinary person without – and I say it again – any background in medicine). I’ve added a cheat sheet with terminology/definitions for everyone who likes that sort of thing. However, all explanations necessary to make sense of the plot are within the story. The cheat sheet is a bonus, you don’t have to use it. And anyways, the hospital is only the backdrop of the story, the boys are the main attraction. Feel free to let the medical language wash over you without understanding a word of it.

Welcome to May! Over here, in Germany, the weather is absolutely fantastic. But before I leave on a little hike I wanted to share the first chapter of a new story with you. The Madhouse was conceived and written during the last twelve months using the prompts from [tumblr.com profile] medwhumpmay. I started writing this without a clear any plot outline, which is very unusual for me. The general idea was for this story to be a palate cleanser for the Library AU. I wanted something with a distinctly different authorial voice and with a distinctly different version of V/O. The following story is the result of that desire. And while the fic gets a little more serious in later chapters (the event was called Medwhump May, after all), my goal was to preserve the fun and quirky tone without sacrificing character arc.

To stay in the spirit of Medwhump May this story will reach you in daily chapters all through the month. That is, if I can keep it up (don't worry, the story is finished). If for some reason, life gets in the way and you don't see a new chapter here, head over to AO3. It's all pre-posted there and I only have to click a button. I hope I can at least manage that even if life gets hectic.

The Madhouse is 70.000 words long, but because I had to hit the daily prompts chapter lengths vary wildly. The shortest chapter is under 1000 words, the longest almost 6000. Which means you'll get shorter and longer bits :)

And now, without further ado, here is the first chapter of this story. Enjoy! And let me know what you think :)

I am back with an offering! This is a little teaser fic for a multi-chaptered story that will start posting in May. You can look forward to 70.000 words and chapters will drop daily (I hope I manage to post daily - this is quite time-consuming).  I'm not going to spoil the plot for you apart from the tidbits that are in the teaser, but I hope you'll drop by in May!

It's probably not of much interest to any of you since everyone gathered here knows the sacred texts anyway, but I couldn't keep myself from writing an introduction post into Viggorli fanfiction for AO3's "International Fanworks Day". (And I had so much fun doing it!) If you'd like to have a look at my take on things, the post is here.

I've probably missed a few major things, but I tried to put in something for every taste and interest. Still, hunting down fic always makes me sad as well. So many things are lost to all of us or are not available to the random new fan since it's all on flocked Livejournals. What a pity :(

Hi! I'm back with the last ficlet in the Library-AU for the Year of the OTP challenge. It's been fun writing for this all year long and I'm a bit sorry there apparently won't be a challenge fpr 2026 :( Anyways, enjoy!

Title:
Then / Now
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: “Life isn’t bliss, life is just this. It’s living.” (Buffy the Vampire Slayer S6E7)
Series: Library-AU
Pairing: Viggo/Orlando
Genre: slash
Warnings: AU, epilepsy, mentions of suicide
Rating: Teen
Disclaimer: Viggo and Orlando belong to themselves. It’s only in my deranged mind that they belong to each other.
Author’s Note: Written for the Year of the OTP challenge. For December I chose the prompt “Everything’s alright”. I wrote about 30% of a totally different fic (in plot and tone) for this prompt, but then this idea hit while listening to Paul Tremblay’s “Horror Movie”. I wanted to end the year with something lighthearted and uplifting, but maybe it’s fitting that we’ll close with Viggo-POV, which is by design always more on the sombre side of things. But don’t fear, it’s not as dark as it might seem from looking at the warnings.

Second to last ficlet for this challenge. Can't believe I actually managed to finish this challenge and write a story for every month. (Because yes, December is already finished and waiting to be posted.)

Title:
 24
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: A day in a life.
Series: Library-AU
Pairing: Viggo/Orlando
Genre: slash
Warnings: AU, medical condition, epilepsy
Rating: Teen
Disclaimer: Viggo and Orlando belong to themselves. It’s only in my deranged mind that they belong to each other.
Author’s Note: Written for the Year of the OTP challenge. For November I chose the prompt “Are you sure?”. This one is a little more experimental once again. I’ve always been a fan of wingfic. I guess this is as close as I’ll ever get.

Hello everyone! This year's Halloween treat is a Library-AU ficlet. Even though it is in the spirit of the season, it comes with no warnings. It's not even remotely scary or disturbing. It's pure domestic fluff with a little sexy!times. Enjoy and happy Halloween!

Dressing Up
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: Viggo has many talents, as Orlando is about to find out.
Series: Library-AU
Pairing: Viggo/Orlando
Genre: slash, fluff
Warnings: AU
Rating: Mature
Disclaimer: Viggo and Orlando belong to themselves. It’s only in my deranged mind that they belong to each other.
Author’s Note: Written for the Year of the OTP challenge. For October I chose the prompt costume. I couldn’t resist doing something lighthearted and fun for Halloween this year.

It's time for another ficlet in the Library-AU. It's a bit late, but last week was absolutely crazy and I had no time to actually post it. After giving Viggo some backstory in The Last Resort I decided I needed something similar for Orlando. This is the result. This story has no warning for epilepsy. There will be some het content, though. And I decided to stick to the rules and gave this a warning for underage sex on AO3, even though I don't think that story is what the warning is about. Anyway, better safe than sorry.

Title:
Five Times Orlando Kissed a Girl (and one time a guy kissed him)
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary: Before there were kisses from Viggo, there were kisses from other people.
Series: Library-AU
Pairing: Orlando/OFC, Viggo/Orlando
Genre: slash, het
Warnings: AU
Rating: Mature
Disclaimer: Viggo and Orlando belong to themselves. It’s only in my deranged mind that they belong to each other.
Author’s Note: Written for the Year of the OTP challenge. For September I chose the prompt highschool/college sweethearts and hijacked it to explore Orlando’s relationship with Bri. This is my first time writing one of those “Five times ...” fics. I’m cheating since technically, Orlando isn’t actually doing most of the kissing. See if I care ...

And here it is: The final chapter. Thank you to those who came along, for your wonderful comments and encouraging words. I can promise that I still plan on finishing the Year of the OTP event, which would mean four more ficlets set in this world. Three of those are already written! And to tide you over, there are some bonus features. In case you hadn't noticed - all the books mentioned in this story do actually exist. This includes Viggo's Matthew Quinton books. If any of the books mention sound interesting to you, feel free to check back with the bibliography for more info. Also, because I had so much fun doing it last year for "The Journey", I wrote a Making-Of. I quite possibly went a little overboard with it (it's over 5000 words long), but there are so many more things I wanted to tell you about this world and about the why behind it. So, if you're at all interested in my writing process or in how in hell this story even came about. Feel free to drop by.

Title:
Broken Wings
Author: Michelle
Email: michelle [at] waking-vision.com
Summary:
Orlando works in a public library in a small town in Idaho. When one day a man comes in to donate a box of books, Orlando’s life takes an unexpected turn.
Series: Library-AU
Pairing: Viggo/Orlando
Genre: slash, romance, some angst and h/c
Warnings: AU, medical condition, epilepsy
Rating: Explicit
Disclaimer: Viggo and Orlando belong to themselves, but every woman needs a hobby.
Author’s Note I: This story was inspired by Freya Sampson’s “Last Chance Library”, even though my story and her book have absolutely nothing in common apart from the fact that there’s a library involved. My basic idea Orlando works in a library took a very wild turn very early on and this story is the result. In the end, the library turned out to be a minor side-plot, but I did include a number of books. All the books mentioned in this story exist; I will provide a bibliography once I’ve finished posting in case you’re interested in reading any of them.
Author’s Note II: Please take the warnings on this story seriously, as they are basically the centre of the plot. This story contains graphic depictions of epileptic seizures, please proceed with caution if you’re unsure whether that’s something you can stomach. I have spent a lot of time researching, because I wanted to at least attempt a realistic picture. I am using artistic license in some areas, though, because – in the end – this is fiction. I’ve tried to develop the medical part of the story organically without it becoming overly info-dump-y, so it is totally okay to read this without knowing anything about epilepsy.
Author’s Note III: For research reasons this story is set in 2024. I didn’t know beforehand how detailed I wanted the medical facts to be (e.g. medications, treatments and the like). Therefore I didn’t want to confuse myself further by setting this in the (even not so distant) past. Characters are aged down to 42 (Viggo) and 23 (Orlando). Title comes from the Mr. Mister song. The lyrics go something like this: Take these broken wings / And learn to fly again / Learn to live so free / When we hear the voices sing / The book of love will open up and let us in / Take these broken wings
