Summary: The New Year spent alone?
Disclamer: As fake as a fake can be.
Viggo looked outside the high window and sighed. The nature outside was already turning blue, Mother Earth telling him the night was approaching. He sighed. It seemed he’d spend this New Year alone. He would, of course, spend it with his friends, but he’d still be alone.
Viggo hadn’t known much about emotional pain until now. He had gone through a divorce and countless break-ups in his life and those always hurt but not like this. Now Viggo felt it more than ever. The uncertainty, the promise of return not made wrapped him up in trepidation. The love he held dear was still virgin, acknowledged for less than a year.
They had fallen in love in secret, hidden away from the always perceptive eye of the rest of the world. It had been a sum of many things like being soul mates and sharing the same interests. On the other hand they were complete opposites but shared a mutual affection. They had only let a handful of people know that some things had taken place in their lives that would change them drastically as individuals.
Viggo downed the remainder of his coffee that had turned cold already before standing up from where he had been seated on the plush couch at Ian’s. Misery was dangerous, Viggo thought. It could seep into the mind without anyone noticing. Viggo was different. He felt he had started to slip into the maze of misery clinging to his friends surrounding him. He didn’t want to feel the desperation, he despised it. Watching the hobbits play Spin the Bottle he smiled sadly. He blinked as the bottle suddenly pointed at him. Four pairs of eyes rose up to meet his. “Truth or Dare?” Billy asked but Viggo shook his head.
“Sorry guys but I’m not in the mood.”
“Thought I’d ask.”
“Thanks, Billy.” The four hobbits kept on watching Viggo’s retreating back, sad expressions written on their faces. Sighing, they continued their game.
The cool evening air hit Viggo in the face as he slipped outside to the porch through a partially open sliding door. He walked the two stairs down and made his way to the fountain where Ian fostered red carps. Sitting down he looked at his reflection outlined on the surface of the calm water. His shoulders slumped as he realized how sad and lonely he looked. Viggo dipped his index finger in the water breaking the surface and his reflection. The relief he felt for not having to look at his sad self was enormous. He moved his hand, drawing imaginary patterns, keeping the surface broken.
His surroundings were turning darker blue by the second and the unfamiliar sting in his eyes made itself known. It was a completely new feeling. Of course Viggo had been in love before and had felt the loneliness pressing on his shoulders. This time, for some reason, it felt ten times heavier. He was getting old and if he was to share his life with someone in this lifetime, it would be now.
The hues of blue danced on the surface of the water. Viggo felt the sting getting stronger and he knew he was losing his composure. Shaking his head in shame, he sniffed.
“Hello, love.” a voice spoke softly behind his back and Viggo froze taking a sharp intake of breath. He didn’t dare turning around for fear it was his imagination playing a game with him. Closing his eyes, he curled up a little, hiding his face behind his shoulder. A familiar scent filled the air around him as the person he loved sat down and gently took his wandering hand into a warm one. A sob escaped his lips as a hand was pressed in his neck, stroking warmth into him.
“Open your eyes.” the same gentle voice spoke. Viggo squeezed his eyes shut more firmly for a few seconds before opening them. He was faced with a familiar looking belt buckle, a roaring tiger he had given himself. The warm hand slid from his neck to rest under his chin and his companion lifted his face up.
“I missed you, Orli. I missed you so bad.”
Orlando smiled as he ran the tip of his thumb over Viggo’s lips. “I missed you, too, Vig. Happy New Year, love.”
Viggo’s answer was a nod and an audible gulp. His barriers were breaking fast and he dropped his head to rest on Orlando’s shoulder as the silent cry shook him. “You came...” he wheezed.
“Of course I came. I wouldn’t miss this for the world. Our first New Year together.”
Orlando lifted their wet hands onto his lap and hugged Viggo. “I love you, Viggo,” Orlando said, his voice so low no one heard the sentiment except Viggo. He pulled back a little and claimed Viggo’s quivering lips with his own.
Viggo was grateful Orlando understood things without saying. The intelligence Orlando possessed was unfathomable but Viggo never questioned it. “I love you, too, angel. So much.” Viggo whispered, not trusting his voice. He looked up again and Orlando dried his tears.

Viggo looked outside the high window and laughed. Nature had turned royal blue, Mother Earth covering them with the night. Viggo sighed. It seemed he’d spend this New Year with his loved one, loneliness erased. He would, of course, spend it with his friends but he’d experience it with Orlando.
