Chapter 24
Orlando lay back on the bed as the door shut behind Viggo. He exhaled sharply as he held the business card in his hand. He turned it over and read the writing on the back. ‘Please call’ It read. Orlando wrinkled his brows. Why would this lawyer take such a keen interest in this, in him? Obviously because he was gay. That wasn’t even a question in Orlando’s mind. Maybe he had been through a nasty divorce and knew how intense they could be. He sighed again and laid the card down on the bedside table and curled up with the pillow. He would defiantly talk to Viggo later. But first he would get a little shut eye and maybe he would locate Viggo later.
Four hours later Orlando woke to the phone ringing. He glared at the object and wondered if he should answer it. He wasn’t sure who knew Viggo was here. He bit his lip nervously and finally picked up the handset. “Ello?” he answered hesitantly.
“Hey, you answered,” Viggo said quietly back.
Orlando smiled and lay back on the bed. “I wasn’t sure if I should. I didn’t know who had the number....”
“Just the hospital right now,” Viggo replied. “I have another patient ready to deliver so I may be here for awhile; I just wanted to let you know so you didn’t wait around for me expecting me to show up.”
Orlando rolled over on his side a held the headset between his shoulder and the pillow. “Are you going to be there most of the day then?”
“I might be,” Viggo said with a sigh. “Called the office and told them to reschedule all my patients for the day, they love that.”
“Oh,” Orlando sighed as he picked up the card again and stared at it.
“Something wrong Orlando?” Viggo asked quietly. “You seem down or something.”
“I just had something I wanted to talk to you about,” he said nervously.
“Can it wait?” Viggo asked.
“Yeah, I suppose, yeah, it can,” he said as he realized it wasn’t an emergency that he tell Viggo.
“Okay good, well I had better go then. We’ll talk later I promise.”
“I work later today.”
“Well, come by after work then okay? Viggo asked.
“Yeah, I will, I need to get going anyway, my cars still at the lot, somebody might begin to wonder.”
Viggo laughed, “Okay baby, I’ll see you tonight then okay?”
“Yeah tonight,” Orlando responded and hung up the phone. Feeling more depressed somehow.
Minutes later he decided he better get his ass up and get things done. But he definitely needed to take a shower before anything else. He didn’t want to walk around smelling like Viggo in case he ran into anyone he knew.
Viggo put the phone back on the desk and leaned back in the chair he was still sitting in. He felt bad for leaving Orlando in his hotel room, but he really didn’t have a choice. Patients came first, mostly birthing patients. He stared out the window and thought about what they were doing just before the call had come. That brought a smile to his face.
“What’s the grin for,” the deep voice beside him asked.
Viggo neatly flew out the chair.
“Sheesh Sean, you scared the hell out of me.’ He said sharply as he righted himself and grabbed the chart he was holding that had fallen on the floor.
“Sorry ‘bout that mate,” he answered. “You looked like you were miles away.”
"Just thinking is all,” Viggo replied, not wanting to give Sean anymore information then was needed, or that could be used against him.
“I see,” Sean replied as he assessed his friend. He had a good idea what was occupying Viggos mind and it wasn’t the current lady in labor.
“So how are things?’ he asked in general as he leaned against the door.
“Good,” Viggo said abruptly as he closed the chart and stood pushing the chair back in. “I need to get back to my patient Sean, she’s due any time now.”
Sean nodded, his lips set tightly. “Sure.” Is all he said in reply. He watched as Viggo walked away and sank down in the seat below. He felt like such a traitor. God what had be been thinking when he and Chloe….he didn’t even want to go there, that bitch. She had him by the balls and she knew it. He decided maybe it wasn’t a good idea that he know anything, then he couldn’t use anything against Viggo, Just mind his own business, that’s all. He made up his mind and picked up the next chart. Hoping that things would work out for everyone and Viggo would be his good friend again one day.

Orlando was relieved when he had gotten back to the parking lot and found that his car was still there, and in one piece. Once in, he warmed the engine and headed towards his apartment. He started thinking of Viggo and wondered how the deliveries were going? He didn’t know why, but for some reason he decided he would stop by the hospital and leave Viggo a note on his car. Not signed of course, he wasn't that stupid, just a little something to brighten his day.
He made his was across town and pulled into the tree lined drive and spotted his lovers car in the doctors parking lot. He pulled over to the side and was about to get out when a couple of security guards came out and walked around the area.
“Shit,” he murmured to himself softy. He knew they could be out there for a while. He got out of his car and pretended he was going to go visit someone as he noticed the guards were looking his way. He walked up to the hospital doors and went inside as they slid open. Shit he thought. He must look like some hoodlum or something. They watched him the whole way.
He walked over to the hospital gift shop and looked around for a bit and bought himself some gum so he would look authentic at least. He left the shop moments later and went to stand by the elevators and looked at the hospital directly. “Nursery.” he read aloud. It probably wouldn’t hurt if he went and looked at the babies would it? He would see it as kind of the outcome of Viggos work, sort of he laughed as he thought about it. He stepped into the elevator as it opened with a ding. He pushed 3 and the doors slid shut and it moved silently upward. He stepped out as the doors slid open only a few moments later. The halls were decorated brightly in pinks and blues. He looked each way before he saw the arrow that said ‘nursery’. And headed in the right direction. He slowly walked up to the big window and stared in at all the little babies in there cribs. Some were crying, some sleeping, each with their little blue or pink hats on. He wondered which one Viggo had delivered? He tried reading the names on the papers above the babies’ names. He thought that one said Mortensen on it.
He smiled Viggo had delivered that baby. He was so proud! What a great job to be able to help bring a new life into the world. He sighed knowing that he probably wouldn’t be able to experience this joy being that he was gay. He was sure that a lot of men adopted or use artificial insemination. Maybe one day he thought as he gazed softly at the little scrunched up faces.
Orlando was just getting ready to leave when he turned and saw Viggo standing there looking at him with a stunned look on his face. “Hey.” he said smiling.
“What are you doing here?” he asked bewildered that Orlando would come to the hospital knowing Sean was close by.
Orlando frowned, “I was going to leave a note on your car…. and then the security started watching….. and so I decided to come in and then decided to come look at the babies, see what you do.”
“Orlando,” Vigo sighed shaking his head. He grabbed his arm and pulled him into the nearby room.
“What?’ he asked as Viggo shut the door.
“You can’t come here, I’m sorry.” he said.
“What, what do you mean?”
“Anyone could see you, Sean or Chloe might even show up,” he said desperately.
“I was just looking at the babies Viggo,” he said a little perturbed.
“I know,” he said sounding frustrated as he ran his hand through his already messy hair. “But …”
“But nothing Viggo,” Orlando said hotly. “I can go as I please to anywhere I want, you can’t tell me where I can and can’t go.”
“Orlando,” he pleaded. “Just listen to me. We have to be careful.”
“You don’t think I know that?” he hissed through his teeth. “I’m not stupid.”
“I didn’t say you were baby.” Viggo said as he tried to reach out to him, to try and calm his agitated lover down.
“Don’t Viggo,” he said jerking away. “Just don’t. I need to go. I have to get ready to go to work.” With that he jerked the door open and stormed down the hall, leaving a very frustrated Viggo alone.
