Table A, Prompt 1

“Cemetery”

“Why are we here again?”

“I’d like to do a few rubbings.”

Orlando nervously looked towards the shadows at the far end of the cemetery and inched closer to Viggo. The sun was near to setting and it seemed as though the darkness was creeping up on them little by little, as the shadows cast by the taller monuments grew taller and longer, stretching their intangible fingers towards them.

“Rubbings. You ah, I mean, I could rub something. For you. Not here.”

Viggo grinned and slung his arm over Orlando’s shoulders. “Later.”

“After we’re eaten by zombies?”

“Zombies? Nah, not here. Just have to worry about the grave robbers.”

Orli stopped in his tracks, and Viggo let his arm drop. “Grave robbers.”

“Yes.”

“Like, people who rob graves.”

“Yes.”

“And take bodies.”

“Just the fresh ones.”

“We’re very fresh,” Orlando observed, taking a step back towards the truck.

“Some fresher than others,” Viggo pointed out.

“Give me the keys.” Orlando held out his hand.

“Why?”

“I’m locking myself in the truck.”

“You don’t believe I can defend you?”

“If they’re grave robbers then they’ll have shovels. And you left your sword at home.”

“I’m kidding you know.”

“Keys.”

Viggo giggled a little madly as he dug the keys out of his jeans pocket and tossed them to his lover. “It’s not like Dr. Frankenstein is roaming the rows.”

“I’ll crack the window. Yell if you’re attacked.”

“And you’ll rescue me?”

“I can run them over with the truck.”

“Just make sure you don’t hit me.”

Orlando sniffed. “We’ll see.”
