Summary: One fateful day in Wellington two worlds collide. A boy who had been living on the streets, and an actor who never had to worry about tomorrow. But there are secrets hidden in the shadow, challenging both of them.

Prologue
Some secrets need to be kept,
Some stories should never be told,
Some reasons shouldn’t be understood
Who needs all the answers?
Who takes all the chances?
Who said the truth’s gonna save you?
When the truth could be dangerous
Like the way I feel,
It’s alright to steal
what I need from you,
Do what I have to do,
Say what I have to say,
Go where I have to go,
And that’s dangerous,
Dangerous to know.
I was a law unto myself
When you found me out on my own
Who needs all the questions?
Who lost their direction?
Who said a lie’s gonna break out?
When a lie could be dangerous
Ignorance is bliss, you are safe when you resist
There’s no safety in a kiss like this
It’s dangerous
So kiss me
Kiss me
“Oh come on Atti, just do it.”
“You know that it will hurt, right?”
“Of course I know but I don’t care so get that stupid thing in.”
“Alright, alright.” Atti sighed. He didn’t like to do that at all but Orlando was stubborn and once it was done it’d look great…but still he didn’t like doing it! He reached for the bottle of beer and gulped down a large amount of the liquid.
Atti straddled Orlando who sat on the floor, his back against the wall. With another sigh, he took the needle with one hand and pulled Orlando’s lower lip a bit forward with the thumb and forefinger of the other one.
“Open your mouth a bit more.”
After Orlando had done so, Atti placed the needle on the left side under Orlando’s lower lip.
“That okay?”
“Mhm.” Orlando’s hand clasped Atti’s shoulders harder; his eyes shut tightly. Atti hesitated for one brief moment and took a deep breath before he pushed the needle in. Orlando’s grip tightened as he suppressed a cry of pain. Atti pulled the needle out and tugged at the sleeve of his hoodie before he pressed the cloth on Orlando’s mouth in order to stop the bleeding. After a minute had passed, Atti eyed his work sceptically.
“Well it doesn’t look too bad, you know?”
He rummaged through his pockets until he found the silver ring.
“Okay let’s get this thing in…”

Orlando was freezing and snuggled closer in the thin blanket. The walls kept out a bit of the cold but the frosty wind blew through the windows where the glass was broken.
Atti tightened his grip around Orlando’s thin frame.
“Are you cold lil one?”
Although it was completely dark in the hall he could picture Orlando pouting like he always did.
“I am not little; in fact I am even a bit taller than you.”
“But I am the older one.” Atti smiled and pulled the blanket tighter around both of them.
“Try to sleep…I got some money tonight so we will be having a nice breakfast tomorrow.”
Atti placed a light kiss on Orlando’s forehead. At the mention of food Orlando realized how hungry he really was. It had been over a day since he had last eaten something. With a sigh the young man tried to banish the hunger and cold, and closed his eyes to dream of a better life. A life where he didn’t have to steal and sell himself in order to survive.
Still, if someone would offer him a choice he would go with Atti again. His life back in London had been a nightmare after his mother had died and he was left with his father. Now it was just hard but no nightmare. And he had Atti, someone who cared for him.
The Brit buried his head in Atti’s pullover, inhaling the typical “Atti-scent” before he drifted off to sleep.
Orlando awoke the next morning because the sun was shining straight into his face. He blinked a few times before pushing the blanket aside in order to stand up. Atti groaned and pulled the blanket closer again.
“Wha’ are ye doin’?”
“Standing up because I need to piss.” Orlando answered dryly.
Atti grumbled and buried his face in the pillow. It was way too early to stand up. Their nights were always long, and since nothing awaited them in the morning they could sleep in.
Orlando came back after a few minutes and crawled under the blanket again, shivering. It had been cold outside and he welcomed the warmth. The floor was hard and only another blanket served as mattress but they were both used to it and didn’t bother him. Orlando snuggled closer to Atti’s warm body with a satisfied sigh. In moments like this, he felt good and didn’t need anything to find relief or to benumb himself. In moments like this, the world was okay; his body didn’t tremble and crave another drug to give him peace and ease him.
Atti cradled the younger man in his arms without opening his eyes once. He knew how much Orlando needed closeness and was more than willing to offer him this. But he also knew that Orlando needed so many other things he just couldn’t give him. All Atti could do was to be there for Orlando and comfort him whenever he needed it. He couldn’t help Orlando because they were both already lost and falling freely.
