A/N: Orlando and Elijah were both in New York the day of 9-11. This story is in no way disrespectful to those who died that day. But it is a glimpse of what could have happened, but we are so thankful it didn’t.

Come on Viggo, go with Elijah and me,” he pleaded with his lover as he leaned over the bed and over Viggo.

Viggo opened one eye, “I’m really tired babe, why don’t you guys go without me,” he grunted.

Orlando rolled his eyes, “Vig come on, It’s the ultimate in dining, it’s the fucking Windows On The World,” he whined.

He sighed in resignation. “Alright you guys go ahead, let me shower and I’ll meet you there, okay?” he groaned.

Orlando grinned with happiness, “Thank you baby, you’ll be glad you did.” He jumped off the bed and stood by the door before he left. “I love you Vig.”

The older man grinned back, “Come here,” he growled.

Orlando flew back to the bed and gave Viggo a hug and a kiss.

“Hmmm. Later, when we get back okay?”He whispered huskily.

“You got a deal,” he whispered hotly against his ear, and with a swipe of his tongue. “Bye Vig. See ya there.”

As soon as Orlando was gone, he rolled out of the bed and walked slowly to the shower. God how he hated going to these fancy resteraunts. But it was Orlando’s first time there; and he didn’t want to begrudge his young lover the beautiful view from the Twin Towers.
He turned the hot water on full blast and stepped in and breathed a sigh of relief at the heat that the shower offered. Orlando had been a little rough with him last night. He was so full of boundless energy. They had sex four times! God he getting to old for this. He knew though that he should hurry up and finish this, so Orlando wouldn’t call and demand to know what was taking so long.

“So, where’s the old man?” he asked as he opened the hotel door and saw Orlando standing there alone.

“Ah, he’s taking a shower first, he had it a little rough last night,” Orlando smiled and winked at him.

“I so do not want to hear about it okay?” he groaned. “Lets just go.”

They made there way down the New York street till they had reached the Towers.

“Shit!” Orlando gasped. “Those fucking buildings are huge!”

“I know, aren’t they amazing! Come on lets go, you’ll love the view from inside.”

They walked into the grand lobby and waited for the elevator to open. Orlando jumped as the elevator pinged. “Shit!” he murmured.

Elijah laughed at his friend. “Come on Orli,” he grinned as they boarded with the rest of the crowd that had gathered.

It had taken some time to get to the top with all the other people getting off at the different floors, but finally the door opened and they walked out and made their way to the hostess desk.

“Hello, How many today?” she asked formally.

“Three,” Elijah stated.

“Follow me,” she smiled at the two men and walked them over to a seat by the window.

“Oh my fucking God Lij!” Orlando nearly yelled. “I cannot believe the view! God it’s unbelievable.” He scanned the New York skyline. “ Bloody unbelievable!”

Elijah grinned at his friend. He had been there before, so he wasn’t as taken as his friend, but he was in awe the first time he had been there.

“Vig’s gotta love this,” he grinned from ear to ear. “Its an artist dream.” He looked at his watch, he had better get here soon too I’m starving.”

They sat there and talked for several minutes until the waiter came and took their order. Orlando knowing what Viggo loved, had gone ahead and ordered for him.

“God, I need a smoke,” Elijah pouted.

“You’re not supposed to be smoking mate,” he said to his friend.

“I know but…one won’t hurt me,” he smiled. “I’m going to go out and light one up and I’ll watch for Vig, he should be here any minute.”

“Alright but hurry,” he laughed as his friend left the table and headed out of the room.

Elijah waited patiently for the elevator once more. He was getting nervous, his need for nicotine driving him crazy. Finally the elevator dinged and he sighed in relief as he got in.

Viggo made his way down the avenue toward the Twin Towers. It had taken him longer than what he thought. He took a pull on his cigarette and blew the air out into the crisp September morn. He hated the busy city; it was noisy, and dirty. But he had to appreciate the blue sky it was amazing that morning. He looked up and watched as a white streak flashed before his eyes. He blinked a couple of times and rubbed at his eyes. He then heard a loud boom. And he felt the tremor as the ground shook. He steadied himself and looked skyward and saw that the one tower was aflame. His heart clenched in sudden fear. Which tower was the restaurant in? He started to run. He could feel the hated cell phone in his pocket buzzing as he did. He grabbed it out of his pocket and looked at the number. Shit, it was Orlando’s. He opened the phone quickly, “Orlando, fuck, where are you, “ he yelled into the phone.

There was silence for a moment, “Orlando!” he cried out.

“Viggo!” Came the soft voice on the phone.

“Baby, where are you?” he asked. He pleaded with the Gods that he wasn’t there in the tower.

“I’m at the restaraunt Vig…a plane…has hit the building,” he stuttered.

Viggo stopped in his tracks, His fear confirmed. He was shaking so badly he could barely hold the phone.

“They’re trying to evacuate us Vig,” he stammered. “I’m scared!” he started crying.

“Baby,” he whispered. “Follow their directions, please. Is Elijah with you?” he asked.

“No…he went and…had to smoke.” he sobbed.

“Shit,” he murmured his heart racing. “I’m almost there baby, hold on and get to those stairs.”

Orlando followed the rest of the patrons to the stairs. It was so packed in there now. He was starting to hyperventilate. They had gone down several flights and realized the way was blocked and they could go no further. The screaming grew louder as they all realized that they were indeed trapped.

“Viggo,” he cried into the phone. “The stairs are blocked we can’t get through, we have to go back!”

Viggo almost collapsed when he heard his lovers scared voice. The street around him was filled with debris from the crash. He looked up into the sky the building burning above him, people wandering about the street that had come down from the building. Some were dazed. He could see several figures that were terribly burnt by the fire lying outside the building as rescue personnel treated them. That’s when he saw Elijah, standing there, his clothes singed.

“Elijah,” he yelled as he ran to the young man.

Elijah turned slowly to the voice calling his name. “Viggo,” he whispered as the man threw his arms around him. “Are you okay?” he asked. Elijah nodded slowly. “Orli,” he whispered.

“I have him on the phone,” he assured him. “Orli?” he asked into the phone. “Orli!” he yelled, ”are you still there?”

“Vig?” he heard the soft voice drift back through the phone.

“Hey baby, I found Elijah.” He said softly.

‘He. Is he okay?” he asked tearfully.

“Yeah baby, he’s fine, where are you now?’ he asked worriedly.

“Back…back at the restaraunt, they still can’t get the door open to the elevator Vig,” he said softly. “I’m stuck here, I’m…going..to..die…here,” he whispered into the phone.

Just then they heard the roar of another jet coming. As they looked skyward, Viggos eyes widened in disbelief and shock as the plane drove into the other tower. “Oh my god!” he whispered.

“Vig, Vig what is it?” he asked his voice trembling. “I heard a loud noise.”

“Its…nothing babe, what are you doing now?” he asked.

“It’s starting to get smoky in here Vig,” he said. “They’re having us lay on the ground.”

Oh god Viggo thought. “Orli, I’m going to try and get up there to you, I’m giving the phone to Elijah.”

“No Vig, you’ll die,” he cried into the phone.

“I’d give my life if I could save you sweetheart,” he murmured softly.

“Please Vig, don’t, please for me, I want to know your safe, don’t come near the building, it’s the last thing that I ask of you,” he sobbed into the phone.

Viggo felt tears running down his checks. “Baby, I feel so helpless.” He heard the cough over the phone. “Orli? Are you okay??” what a stupid question he thought after it left his mouth. Of course he wasn’t okay.

“Yeah Vig,” he said, his voice growing calmer. “I love you Vig,” he said quietly.

“Oh fuck Orli, I love you,” he cried.

“Tell mum and Sam that I love them too, okay? And all the fellowship and tell Peter thank you for believing in me.”

Viggo nodded his head unable to speak.

“Can I say bye to Lij Vig?’ he asked.

Viggo handed the phone to Elijah, “hey Orli.” he said sadly, his voice rough.

“Lij, I don’t have much time but I want you to know that I love you, okay”

“I know Orlando, I love you too.”

“Lij I’m going to ask a favor okay?”

“Sure Orli,” he said as he wiped his hand across his dirty face.

“Take care of Viggo for me will you? Help him in anyway you can. Will you do that?” he begged of his friend.

He sniffed loudly into the phone, “I will Orli, you can count on it.” He said.

“I need to talk to Vig again okay Lij?” he said gathering his courage.

Viggo took the phone and gripped it tightly in his hand. “Orli?” he asked his voice cracking.

“Vig, it’s getting hard to breath, I’m not sure how much longer I can hang on,” he coughed again.

“I understand Orli, I love you Baby, don’t you ever forget that.”

“I know Vig, I know I’ll see you again, but I want you to…take care of yourself okay? Promise?”

“Hey you got one promise already,” he replied.

“Vig, I’m serious. I want you to go on, take my place at the premiers so people remember me and know what I was about.”

“I will Orli,” he said quietly. “I promise with all my heart I will do everything in my power,” he gasped as Orlando coughed again.

“I’m going to go now Vig, it’s getting hard to concentrate okay?”

Viggo nodded his head as if Orlando could see. “I love you!” he whispered. Then in a stronger voice. “I won’t ever forget you, ever!”

“Bye Vig,” he whispered. And then the phone went dead.

Viggo collapsed to the ground as the conversation ended. His head held in his shaking hands as he cried. Elijah knelt down next to him and gathered him into his arms and held the sobbing man and they both cried together.

Orlando closed the phone and closed his eyes. It was his time now. He knew there was no way out; he had to accept his fate. He heard a small voice next to him and he opened his eyes and saw a small girl crying next to him. He moved his body over to hers and wrapped his arms around her.

“Mister, I’m scared,” she cried looking into his sweet face.

“I know sweetheart, I know,” he whispered back to her. “Let me hold you okay?’ he asked.

She nodded her head and Orlando circled his arms around her small frame.

His last thought’s were that he loved Viggo with everything he had and he didn’t regret a single day that they were together.

Viggo and Elijah were suddenly drawn out of there embrace as a deafening noise sounded above them. They then realized with sudden horror that the tower was collapsing!
They had to get out of there and they had to get out of there now!

They stared running, as did all other people that were with them. Viggo had never run so hard in his life through the debris that was scattered about. They ducked into a building breathing hard and heavy and watched as a huge cloud of smoke, dust and paper littered the streets.

Viggo sat against the wall the tears still streaming down his cheeks as he thought of his last words to Orlando. He had let the young man know he loved him and that he would let others know how wonderful a young man his Orli was. He knew Orli was dead now; with the collapse of the tower. He knew it, but his heart so much didn’t want to believe it. He grabbed Elijah and just held onto the young man for dear life, until the cloud of smoke had at last, lessened.

December 2001

Viggo sat in the theatre where the Fellowship of the Ring was being shown. It was so hard to be here. He didn’t even know if he could watch the movie. It would remind him so much of his lover. So much of his Orli. The lights went down. And the movie began to roll. The first words on the screen were a dedication.

To all those who have lost their lives in the terror attack on 9-11-2001

To our beloved friend and colleague Orlando Bloom who died there that day, we dedicate this movie.

Viggo felt the tears run down his cheeks as the words disappeared, and they showed a picture of his beloved. He felt his hands gripped on either side of him as first Elijah grabbed his one hand and Liv grabbed his other.

They never would forget the young man they had grown to love and respect, and they would do whatever it took, to keep the memory of him alive.

The End

Oh that was sad and tragic. I'm so glad that was only a story. But sadly, it happened to hundreds of other people and that wasn't a story, it was reality.

Hmmmm. This was definitely something that made me pause and think.

At first Orlando's final conversation seemed very strange - I couldn't grasp that he would talk about premieres, and such things with his last breaths . . . but then I thought some more about it and - truthfully - who could honestly know what we would say if we only had a few minutes to say something to the person we loved best?

I think for anyone who was in that place on that date, this would probably ring a bell; and for those of us who have never experienced such a situation, it was thought-provoking.

The ending was as fitting a tribute as anyone could hope for, and "to keep the memory alive" is all that can be done.

Interesting idea to involve these people in that day, though . . .

Yeah I can understand that. I nearly cried as I thought of all those people who died and when I thought of their families and friends who received the news. I can only imagine how it was, my husband is often abroad for his job and I'm afraid to think of how we would react if they announced that he died in crash or had an accident or such things.
Thank you for the story, it was really beautiful and full of emotions. *hugs*

You're very welcome.

Did you know Sean Bean was in NY on that day? Not near the twin towers (thankfully!) but he was there. Because all the airports were closed, for once his fear of flying was a blessing, because he had a passage home booked on the Q.E.2, which still sailed.

*is most relieved*
