Wounds, old and new.
The following two weeks were much the same as the night Orli was brought home. He never left Sean’s side at all, even waiting for him outside the bathroom door, and when at all possible his was in Sean’s lap and arms. Viggo knew deep down that it was because Sean was like his brother and that he trusted him more then anyone but that little green monster inside was gnawing at him telling him that Orli loved Sean. The more he thought about it the more his heart broke. He loved Orlando and would stick by him through this ordeal but as soon as he was better, as soon as this was over he would walk out of their lives and let them be together.
Sean sat on the sofa and sighed. Orli lay with his head in his lap asleep and Viggo was off God knows where and Sean was here alone, again. He was glad to be there for Orli, glad he was so trusted and loved but it was Viggo that he didn’t understand. Viggo had told him how much he loved Orlando in the hospital but now he was distancing himself from them both, even Orli knew it. He couldn’t count the number of times he’d had to comfort and reassure him that Viggo was not angry with him and that he did love him though he knew Orli really didn’t believe him. He was not a doctor, not a Ppsychiatrist yet his friends expected him to make everything right. Him, the man who had blown three marriages, countless relationships and even a few friendships., hHe sighed and rubbed his temples. He nearly jumped out of his skin when the phone rang. “Hello.”
“Hello, I’m looking for Mr. Bloom.”
“I’m sorry he’s not able to come to the phone now. May I take a message?”
“Well,” the lady on the other line hesitated. “Whom am I speaking with?”
“Sean, I am taking care of Orlando right now so,”
“Oh, all right. YYou’re on our list of approved people.”
Sean was wondering what the hell kind of fruitcake this lady was. “Look if you’re trying to sell something...”
“No, no sir,” she chuckled. “I’m sorry, my name is Tina and I work for Mr. Merrick.” When she got no response, “The attorney Mr. Jackson hired for Mr. Bloom.”
“Oh!” he suddenly remembered. “Yeah, right. Sorry, you just never know who’s calling these days.”
“No problem. I wanted to call and let Orlando know that the trial date has been set for March 14th. Mr. Merrick will need to see him in his office as soon as he is able.”
“That could be a problem. Orlando hasn’t left the house since,” he paused and shuddered, “since it happened.”
“Oh,” sadness evident in her voice. “Perhaps Mr. Merrick could come to him?”
“I think that could be better arranged,” Sean agreed. “When he wakes up I will talk to him and see when he would be comfortable with it. I’ll call you back soon.”
“Thank you Mr. Bean.”
“Sean, please call me Sean and thank you Tina.”
“Goodbye Sean,” she said before hanging up.
As soon as the phone was turned off Orli looked up at him, “Who was that and what do I need to be comfortable with?” trepidation filling his eyes.
“That was Tina from Mr. Merrick’s office. He needs to see you.”
“No!” Orli shouted and sat up, pulling his knees to his chest.
“Orli the trail is set for March 14th and you need to talk to him about it.”
“No!”
“Orlando,” his tone had warning to it. “You have to do this. I know you don’t want to but you have to. You have to do it for yourself and for the other people that may stand to get hurt by this bastard.” Watery eyes looked up at him and he sighed hugging him close. “Viggo and I will be right here the whole time, love. We will never leave your side.”
“Swear? Swear you won’t leave me alone?”
He held the lithe body tighter, “on my life.”
“What do I have to do?”
Kissing the top of his head Sean explained everything to him and set up the appointment for the following day. After words he called Dr. Wesley and informed him of what was going on and that with the trial coming up he felt things would be getting even harder for Orli. Dr. Wesley agreed and called in a prescription for a sleep aid. Sean promptly called Viggo’s cell and told him to stop on the way home and pick it up as well as something for dinner. Hopefully once he got Orli to sleep tonight he would be able to have a talk with Viggo.
When Viggo got home he sat the food out and was plating it up. Knowing that Orli now had a great apprehension to tables he went and got the tvTV trays and set them up before bringing the food in to the den. Everyone started eating and Sean started the conversation. “So what did you do today Viggo?”
Viggo looked at him mid-bite, “Went to one of the galleries and looked around. Went to the set and picked up our scripts that we need to work on and just walked around for a while. How about you?”
Sean glared at him. He knew damn well he had no way of leaving the house or even the room with out Orli with him. Not that Sean minded but it felt like a dig. Plastering a smile on his face, “Oh, I was here all day, you know, reading hanging out with Orli.”
Orli swallowed hard to get the bite of food down around the bile that rose in his throat. They were arguing over staying with him and he knew it but he needed them so badly that he didn’t know what else to do. He couldn’t get through this trial alone. Putting his fork down he sat and listened to the exchange for a while then picked up his pills from the coffee table and headed up stairs.
Viggo and Sean both looked up when he stood and started to leave the room. “Orli?” Sean asked, shocked. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m tired, I’m going to bed.” Sean stood and went to him but he held his hand up. “Don’t, stay down here and talk. I’m fine.”
“Orli, I didn’t mean that I was upset about having to,…”
“It’s alright Sean. I’m not your kid, just someone you met on a movie set and you have no obligation to me at all, either of you. It was wrong of me to,” he stopped and took a shaky breath, “to cling like that, to expect you to give up your lives to help me. Now, I’m tired and I’m going to bed. Goodnight.”
“You can’t sleep remember?” Viggo added from behind, feeling guilty.
Orli walked up the steps holding his bottle of pills in the air, “I can now.”
